FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
Figurative Language ( or
figures of speech)
- Creates pictures in the mind
of reader or listener.
- We use it to add color,
interest, and awaken the
imagination.
1.) Simile – compare using
like or as.

2.) Metaphor – Compare
without using like or as.

3.) Personification –

Human qualities are


given to animals,
objects or ideas.
The stars danced playfully in
the moonlit sky.
The wind sang through the
meadow.
Use your whiteboards
and identify if the figure
of speech used is a
simile, metaphor or
personification.
