Mastercam crashes shortly after

opening a SOLIDWORKS file
Problem
Mastercam crashes shortly after opening a SOLIDWORKS file on systems that also have SOLIDWORKS 2018 or later installed on
them.

Cause
Currently being investigated. (D-37022)

It’s not always apparent that opening the SOLIDWORKS file was the root cause. Some users report that loading a machine
definition is causing Mastercam to crash, but that’s only because they had opened a SOLIDWORKS file beforehand. It can
technically be any function used after opening a SOLIDWORKS file. This has been logged as D-37022 and we are working with
SOLIDWORKS to get this addressed.

Solution
Temporary workaround:

1. Close Mastercam and SOLIDWORKS if open.

2. Right-click on the shortcut for the latest version of SOLIDWORKS installed on the system and select

Properties.

3. Make note of the installation's target path.

4. Click Cancel to exit the Properties dialog.

5. Using File Explorer, browse to the installation location.

6. In that folder locate the following file: sldpropertyhandler.DLL

7. Rename this file to: sldpropertyhandler.DLLOLD

8. Now go ahead and open SOLIDWORKS files in Mastercam.

Note: This is only a temporary workaround until D-37022 is resolved. It will also be necessary to to rename the file back prior to
installing and SOLIDWORKS Service Packs.
