Maslow’s Island

When Chuck was on the island many of his needs were not met. He had to survive against terrible odds and fight for
even the basic needs, such as food and water. Not only was he struggling to get the most basic of needs, he also was
alone, isolated for a long period of time. His physiological needs were not met either.

To correct this, Mr. Henderson, Prime Minister of Hendersontopia, has asked you to develop a city on the island that will
meet all of the needs of its population. You will need to determine how the city will meet each level of Maslow’s
hierarchy of needs pyramid: Physiological, Safety, Belonging/Love, Esteem, and Self-Actualization. To do this, you will
need to think beyond just buildings and attractions. Think about programs, institutions and organizations that would
help people reach their full potential, providing them with everything that Chuck was missing.

Final POL

The product of this project will have two parts:

1) A map of the island: This must include a legend, detailed images and follow all mapping rules.
2) A tour guide book or travel brochure: This will need to be done in colour (No pencil) and include images and
detailed descriptions explaining the layout of the island, the programs offered and how they relate with each
level of Maslow’s hierarchy.

Each person in the group is responsible for their own portion of the assignment. Each section needs to have a name
attached to it, describing who the author is.
