Diagnostic Radiology Program Admission Committee

Boise State University

1910 University Drive

Boise, ID 83725-1845

Dear Diagnostic Radiology Program Admission Committee:

I have always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field and have explored several options

during my academic career. Originally, my interest in radiology began when I had to have X-

rays to diagnose sports injuries as an adolescent. More recently, I had ultrasounds done to check

for rheumatoid arthritis. This experience led me to do more research on the field of radiology and

I have since developed a strong interest in diagnostic medical sonography.

In November, I had the privilege to attend the College of Southern Idaho Radiologic

Technologist Career Awareness Day in Twin Falls, Idaho. The three-hour career day consisted of

information about their radiation technology program, common medical imaging equipment, and

career opportunities available after obtaining a certification as a radiology technician.

Participating in this event provided me with insight on what it takes to get into a radiation

technology program and the dedication that this type of program will require. After attending, it

gave me reassurance that pursuing a career in radiology is the right path for me.
I believe that my work history in a medical office and in retail settings will contribute to my

success during and after the program. Working in a medical office setting has allowed me to

develop precision in my work and the understanding of the importance of following procedure.

My retail experience has provided me the knowledge to work proficiently as part of a team, to be

detail oriented, to respond professionally in stressful situations, and to multitask in an orderly

manner. The skill set I have obtained from my experiences will help me handle and adapt to the

challenges I would face in this program and as a working professional.

Through my interest, research, and experiences, I believe that working in radiology is the right

career path for me. My end career goal is to be a diagnostic sonographer at a diagnostic-imaging

center. I am passionate about becoming part of the changing world of healthcare and I wish to be

able to help patients receive diagnoses and quality healthcare services. Should I be accepted into

this program, I believe that I will continue to grow both personally and professionally as I work

hard to successfully complete the program.

Thank you for your consideration.
