VLOG BOOK REVIEW
Students will create a vlog via Knovio
presenting thoughts and opinions after
the reading of each chapter of The
Autobiography of Malcolm X. These
thoughts and opinions must
demonstrate critical thinking and
comprehension of the text. Each vlog
entry needs to be at least 1 ½ minutes
each. This vlog must also include a
conclusion entry discussing their
reaction to the text as a whole.
SCENE PERFORMANCE
Students will present to the class a
performance of any scene in The
Autobiography of Malcolm X. These
scenes can either be performed live in
class or presented as a student film.
The performance, either live or filmed,
must be at least 3 minutes long. For
FILMED SCENES students must use
an editing software (i.e., iMovie, Adobe
Premier) to sequence their scene into a
short film. Memorization is not required
for LIVE PERFORMANCE, but
performances must showcase effort
and possess respect for the text.
BOOK COVER
Students will create an alternate cover
for The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
This cover will be either hand drawn or
made using a drawing software (i.e.
Adobe Photoshop). Cover must show
time and effort.
PODCAST
Students will write a book review of The
Autobiography of Malcolm X. These
reviews are personal and subjective in
opinion or subject matter so write what
you truly feel and think about the book.
The review should have a cover page
with a title for their review and a
relevant image included on it. This
review should also include at least 2
quotes from the text in them.
CHARACTER LIST
Students will make a list of the
important characters in The
Autobiography of Malcolm X. This list
should be at least 10 characters long.
These characters can either be actual
characters from the story or ones that
are mentioned heavily in it. When listing
these characters students are required
to give: 1.) a detailed description of the
character 2.) Their relationship to
Malcolm 3.) An important event they
were present in within the book 4.) A
quote from or about them in the book.
E-JOURNAL
Students will create an e-journal using
the Penzu app. This journal should
have entries from 10 different dates
with the entries discussing thoughts
and opinions regarding The
Autobiography of Malcolm X.
Students will create a podcast via the
Pocket Cast app discussing The
Autobiography of Malcolm X. This
podcast is a group assignment to be
completed with 3-5 classmates. The
podcast must be at least 15 minutes
long and must demonstrate critical
thinking by way of the discussion in the
podcast. The discussion must include
at least 4 references (i.e., quote,
chapter summary, decision made by
Malcolm X, etc.) of the text
NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
Students will create a newspaper article
about The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
This article can be about almost any
aspect about the book. It can be about
the book as a whole, a chapter in the
book, a decision made by Malcolm, an
opinion formed about other characters
within the book, or anything else that
you think of. The only thing I ask is that
you run your idea by me to make sure
you’re on the right track.
DEBATE
I will moderate an in-class debate
where students discuss whether
Malcolm X is a hero or a villain. Debate
will include two teams: Team Hero and
Team Villain. Sign-up for debate will be
given out at the end of the reading The
Autobiography of Malcolm X.
