and evaluate student answers. Students will watch/listen to the
clips, listen to my lecture, take notes, discuss their answers in
small groups, ask and answer questions on the mic and in the
chat pod, and complete an exit ticket.

Implementation
Learning Context This lesson is at the end of Unit 2, our study of American
Romanticism.

Teaching Strategies Poll questions, lecturing, question/answer, students reading

selections, discussion, students sending me an exit ticket.

Time Allotment 45 minutes

Sample Student Products Exit ticket: Students will send me answers to three questions
based on the lesson. Poll results: students will answer a poll
question.
Procedure
Anticipatory Set Poll posted: How do you feel about RACE Format? Multiple
choice answers include: "Great! I can follow it just fine." "Pretty
well, but I would still like some help." "Eh, I've heard of it but
I'm not really sure what it is." "What's that?!"; students will
listen to the song, "Imagine" and identify similarities between
the song and characteristics of American Romancticism.

Modeling Demonstrating RACE Format with a slide presentation.

Guided Practice I answer one of the essay questions, step by step during the
lesson and introduce the three they can choose from. (Including
a video of a narration of "When I Heard The Learn'd
Astronomer."

Independent Practice Students choose which essay question to answer for their
second choice and create an outline for that answer.

Closure I assign three questions based on the lesson for students to

answer via webmail.

Follow Up I will be teaching a similar lesson at the end of Unit 3. I will

evaluate my students' answers on the Unit 2 test and that will
inform my instruction for the next Unit.
