III. Rationale:
Education and learning depend on good nutrition and health (Rosso, 1999). Nutritional
and health status are powerful influences on a child’s learning and on how well a child
performs in school. Children who lack certain nutrients in their diet, or who suffer from
protein-energy malnutrition, hunger, parasitic infections or other diseases, do not have the
same potential for learning as healthy and well-nourished children. Weak health and
poor nutrition among school-age children diminish their cognitive development either
experiences - or both.
In the Philippines, malnutrition among school-age is one of the pressing problems that
this predicament particularly in the Department of Education since the most affective
DepEd Order No. 37. S.2014, stated the implementation of School-Based Feeding
Program (SBFP) for School Year (SY) 2014-2015 to address the under nutrition problem
and short-term hunger among public school children through the Health and Nutrition
Centre (HNC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Meals
offered were in the form of lunch. In support to this order, Cagbacong Elementary
School has been passionately providing the best of the program dubbed as “Eat
Well, Be Well.”
This school year, the program was started in October, 2016. Record shows that there are
fifty one (51) school feeding recipients (17) are wasted and (34) are severely wasted from
grade one to grade six respectively who are currently benefitting in this program.
The researcher would like to know the status of pupils’ attendance in relation to the

school?
The study will focus mainly on the status of pupils’ attendance in relation to the
implementation of the School-Based Feeding Program for School Year 2015-2016, and
how their attendance will be improved. The feeding recipients are the main respondents
of the study. These recipients are the seventeen (17) severely wasted pupils and thirty
four wasted pupils. Parents and teacher-advisers of these pupils are also respondents of
this study.
VI. Methodology
to be used in this study are questionnaires, checklists, and interview. The researcher will
use the School Form 4 (SF4) to get the data on attendance of pupils. This will be
collected and carefully analysed in order to get the status of pupils’ attendance using
weighted mean.
A checklist will be prepared to identify the measures that can be achieved in improving
the pupils’ attendance. This will be checked by a juror to ensure its validity and
reliability. The researcher will also make a questionnaire to be used during the interview
to parents and the adviser to find out the reasons why pupils are often absent from
classes.
VII. Conclusion:
After analysing and interpreting the data, conclusion and recommendation will be
