The book consists of 9 short stories, about Indians and Indian Americans. In the stories we find
how the characters are trying to cope up with the new world. Like in the story “Mrs. Sen’s” Mrs.
Sen always thinks about her home and try to live in the old happy moment through the memories
she has. Again in the story “A Temporary Matter” we see a couple because of misunderstanding
stops living normal life and when they get chance to talk freely they found their lost love for each
other. In the story “When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine” it is seen how a ten year old small girl
feels for Mr. Pirzada’s family, who are caught in war, whom she only seen in picture. In other
stories also we find the internal emotions which are sometimes unrealized.
The stories in the book has details which not only have a literal meaning but also an inner
meaning and in some stories the dilemma that continues in our mind is also depicted. To
understand and feel the true essence of the stories it requires little bit of maturity so I think the
book will be suitable for 24 and above aged people.
I will recommend this book to those who think about emotional values and lives life not for
himself for others also.
