DAY 13

UNIT 5A – PP. 36, 37

Learner outcomes: by the end of the lesson, students are able to:

 Review simple past: regular verbs


 Use the prepositions “in” and “on” properly
 Pronounce the “-ed” sounds correctly

Activity 1: Warm – up STOP THE BUS

Objective: To introduce the content of the lesson

Materials: Activity 1 Stop the Bus worksheet in Appendix, enough for groups of 4/5

Procedure:

 Play stop the bus with the worksheet in appendix.


 4 rounds after each round write words on board.
 After get students sat in a circle and explain that sentence by sentence they will tell a
story in the past tense.
 Teacher starts the story for e.g. “I had a terrible day yesterday”. Then choose the first
student to say the next line of story.
 Continue around the circle, last student must finish the story.

Activity 2: Reading and vocabulary

Objective: Students are able to get familiar with some facts around the world

Material: PowerPoint in google drive folder. A4 paper enough for groups of 4/5

Procedure:

 Books closed.
 Make new groups of 4/5 and give each group a sheet A4 paper.
 Explain that they will see a multiple choice question and they must write their answer
down in secret and run to the teacher to show their written answer.
 The first team with a correct answer gets 50 points, second 40 points, third 30 points
etc.
 Continue until all questions are finished.

Activity 3: Prepositions “in and on”

Objective: Students are able to use the prepositions “in” and “on” properly.

Procedure:

 Explain the use of “in” and “on” for time words for e.g. January, Tuesday and the year
2000.
 Have some students write some facts about themselves such as “I was born on the 28th
October” and “I was born in 1988”.
 Then explain they will go round the room and interview other students to find out if
their information is the same and record the answers.
 Encourage the use of correct sentence structure.
 After some time give the students a few minutes to look over their information.
 Have some students come up to present their findings “I was born on the 17th April and
Joe was born on the 19th August” etc.
 Check grammar and pronunciation and give corrective feedback.

Activity 4: Grammar: Regular verbs FAMILY FEUD

Objective: In order for students to review some regular verbs

Procedure:

 Have students complete task 6 page 37.


 Then divide the class in 2 and divide the board in 2. Write 1 to 15 on the board in both
halves.
 Give the students closest to the board, in both teams, some chalk and explain that they
need to be the first team to write 15 verbs. Both teams cannot have the same verb.
 The first student will write 1 verb then pass the chalk to the next and so on.
 After have a quick discussion about which verbs are regular.
 Then put the students into groups of 4/5 and number them.
 Explain you will say a regular verb from the board and give a number of words required
to make a sentence in the past tense.
 After 10 seconds, call a number, that number has to run to a centre point and say the
sentence. Correct use of the verb and the required number of words.
 As the game continues you can say “use 2 verbs” and increase the number of words
required to make the sentence.
 1 point for correct sentence, mot points wins.
 Check pronunciation and grammar and give corrective feedback.
