Answer/solve the following:

1. An earth canal containing weeds and grass has bottom of 6.6 m and side
slopes of 2 horizontal to 1 vertical. The depth of water is 2 m and the slope
is 0.07%. It is desired to change the section to a semicircular concrete
lined canal having a slope of 1.5 m in 1 km. Determine the radius of the
channel if it flows full. Use n = 0.035 for earth canal and n = 0.012 for
concrete lined canals.

2. A single-zone effluent drip irrigation system has 500 pressure-

compensated emitters. Each emitter is rated for 0.62 gallon per hour. You
observed the system operate for 10 minutes. How many gallons of
effluent should have pumped from the pump tank during the 10 minutes?

3. The system described in problem number 2 does not have a flow meter.
The interior of the pump tank is 48 inches wide and 48 inches long.
Based on your answer from problem number 32, how many inches should
the water level have dropped.

4. Design a channel of rectangular cross-section to carry water at the rate of

0.3m3/s a distance of 5 km if the width is restricted to 1.5 m and the head
loss along the length limited to 1 m. Consider lining to be of rough
concrete (n= 0.015)

5. Determine the system capacity for a sprinkler irrigation system to irrigate

16ha of maize crop. Design moisture use rate is 5 mm/day. Moisture
replaced in soil at each irrigation is 6 cm. Irrigation efficiency is 70%.
Irrigation period is 10 days in a 12-day interval. The system is to be
operated for 20 hours per day.
