    Egg shells are produced in large quantities as waste by the food industry but are currently dumped in landfills. This study aims to use 20% egg shell powder to replace fine aggregates in concrete, and add polypropylene fibers at 0%, 0.2%, and 0.4% by volume, to test if this can provide a safe way to dispose of egg shell waste without environmental hazards. The concrete mixtures will be tested for compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength.

    EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON CONCRETE USING

    EGGSHELL POWDER AND POLYPROPYLENE FIBRE

    ABSTRACT

    The food processing industries, hotels and restaurants are the places produces egg
    shell waste abundantly. In previous days these egg shell waste are used as manure for
    crops. But in recent days the consumption of the eggs has increased rapidly due to
    better economic growth of nations which in turn results in production of huge egg
    shell waste by which, we are not able fully utilize it at present and are usually
    delivered to landfills for disposal. Dumping of egg shell waste creates odour and
    various disease. In order to overcome this problem we have to dispose the egg shell
    waste safely without environmental hazards. The aim of this project work is to use
    egg shell powder 20% constantly as replacement of fine aggregates and to use
    polypropylene fiber in the range of 0%, 0.2%, 0.4% in the M20 concrete by the
    volume of fraction. Various test such as compressive strength, split tensile strength
    and flexural strength were carried out.
