IF CONDITIONAL

Conditional Sentences are also known as Conditional Clauses or If Clauses. They


are used to express that the action in the main clause (without if) can only take
place if a certain condition (in the clause with if) is fulfilled. There are three types of
Conditional Sentences.

Conditional Sentence Type 1


→ It is possible and also very likely that the condition will be fulfilled.

Form: if +Subject+V1, S+Will+V1

Example:

1.If I find her address, I’ll send her an invitation.

Fact = -

2.If I prepare well for the test,I’ll pass it

Fact =-

3.If you give me money,I’ll help you

Fact =-

Conditional Sentence Type 2


→ It is possible but very unlikely, that the condition will be fulfilled.

Form: if + subject + V2/were + s + M2 + V1

Example:

1. If I found her address, I would send her an invitation.


Fact = I don’t find her adress

2. If I were you,I would be very angry.


Fact = I am not you

3. If I had much money,I would go around the world.


Fact = I don’t have much money
Conditional Sentence Type 3
→ It is impossible that the condition will be fulfilled because it refers to the
past.

Form: if + subject + had + V3 + s + M2 + have + V3

Example:

1. If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation.


Fact= I didn’t find her adress

2. If I had prepared well for the test,I should have passed


Fact= I didn’t prepare well the test.

3. If I had had much money,I would have gone around the world
Fact= I didn’t have much money.
