Report on popularity of Streaming Services

The most recent development in the media and entertainment is the surge in popularity in
streaming services. There are mainly just three platforms offering streaming services right now.
1. Netflix
2. Amazon Prime
3. Hotstar

These platforms have experienced this surge in popularity because of certain

Factors:
 Age Range
 Average amount a customer is willing to spend per month on a particular service
 Language preferred by the customer.
 Genre preferred by the customer.
 Does a customer prefer the online streaming service or cable television.
Questions asked, and the Inferences drawn from the data:
1. Which streaming service is the most popular among customers?
According to Sheet “No. of customers” of the attached excel workbook, the bar graph
clearly shows that Amazon Prime is the most popular among the three streaming services with a
viewership of 73 among 200.
2. Which genre is preferred by customers and in what language?
According to Sheet “Genre & language breakup”, English-Comedy and Regional-Thriller
are the language-genre combinations most popular across all the streaming services. Sheet “Genre
breakup” shows that Amazon Prime provides the most content on the basis of comedy, thriller and
horror. Hence it is the most popular among all customers.
3. How much is the average amount a customer is willing to spend on each streaming platform?
According to Sheet “Avg. amount willing to spend”, the average amount a customer is
willing to spend on each platform is relatively the same, and Netflix is the highest by a small
margin. However, this parameter cannot be used to determine the popularity of the services due to
its slim margin of difference.

4. Do the customers prefer Cable Television or Online Streaming?

Sheet “Cable TV vs Online Streaming” shows us that cable television is preferred in both
Regional and English Languages and in Hindi, it is equal.
This indicates that the streaming services should improve their content in both English and
Regional languages. Also, customers must be made aware of content in the respective languages.
If the customer base and preferences change to Streaming Services rather than Cable Television
in English and Regional languages, then, the overall popularity of the streaming services would
increase.
