SUBJECT: TAIL ROTOR SLIP RING MOUNTING PLATE INSTALLATION

IMPROVEMENT

REASON: to improve thread engagement of the screws used to affix the Tail Rotor
Mounting Plate to the Tail Rotor Slip Ring Frame.

HELICOPTERS AFFECTED: AW139 helicopters equipped with Kit FIPS (Full Ice
Protection System) Tail Rotor Slip Rings (P/N 4G6420V00151) from S/N 002 to S/N
051 included and not identified by letter “R” marked after the S/N.
NOTE
Modification must be performed also on spare Tail
Rotor Slip Rings (P/N 4G6420V00151) kept in stock,
from S/N 002 to S/N 051 (included) and not identified
by letter “R” marked after the S/N.

COMPLIANCE: within one hundred (100) flight hours or three (3) months from receipt of
this Bollettino whichever comes first.

An appropriate entry should be made in the aircraft log book upon accomplishment.

DESCRIPTION: this bollettino provides the instructions for the replacement of the
mounting screws which fasten the Tail Rotor Mounting Plate to the frame of the Tail
Rotor slip ring.

REQUIRED MANPOWER: it is estimated that in order to accomplish this Bollettino eight

(8) man-hours are necessary. Man-hours are based on hands-on time and may vary
with personnel and facilities available.

WARRANTY: within the calendar terms mentioned at point “Compliance”, the parts
required to apply the present Bollettino shall be supplied on a free of charge basis by
AgustaWestland upon Customers request, except for consumable materials and
special tools.
Upon application of this Bollettino, Customers are requested to submit to
AgustaWestland Warranty Administration the Technical Bulletin Compliance form,
attached to this Bulletin duly completed in all its parts, and relevant W.M.M.
(Warranty Claim/Maintenance Work Order/Malfunction Report).

REQUIRED MATERIALS: the following materials, necessary to accomplish this

bollettino, can be requested to AgustaWestland:

with AMP DM referred to in the compliance instructions.

SPECIAL TOOLS: the following special tools are necessary to accomplish this
bollettino. Customer must order the tools to AgustaWestland, if required.

COMPLIANCE INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Prepare the helicopter for a safe ground maintenance. Disconnect the battery and all
the electrical power sources and/or the external power supply. Refer to AMP, see
DM n° 39-A-00-20-00-00A-120A-A.

2. Put the Platform (GG-02-00), or an approved alternative, adjacent to the right side of
the tail rotor. Refer to ITEP, see DM n° 39-A-GG-02-00-00A-066A-A.

3. Remove the slip ring. Refer to AMP, see DM n° 39-B-64-21-05-00A-520A-A.

4. Replace the mounting screws that fasten the Tail Rotor Mounting Plate to the frame
of the Tail Rotor slip ring. Do as follows:

4.1 Take eight NAS1352N06H12 screws and cut them as required to reach a
length of 0.700 ±0.10 inches (17.78 ± 2.5 mm) refer to figure 2.

4.2 Remove and discard the lockwire from one of the eight screws as shown in
figure 1.

4.3 Remove and discard the screw. Keep NAS620C6 washer for eventual reuse at
following step 4.4.

4.4 Install one of the screw modified at previous step 4.1 with a NAS620C6
washer.

4.5 Torque the screw to 20 lbs-in (2.3 Nm).

4.6 Re-install lockwire between the screw head and the mounting flange in
accordance with NASM33540.

4.7 Repeat steps 4.2 thru 4.6 until all the eight screws have been replaced.

4.8 Using permanent marking ink, mark a letter “R” as an appendix to the serial
number on the TR slip ring identification label (refer to figure3).

5. Install the slip ring. Refer to AMP, see DM n° 39-B-64-21-05-00A-720A-A.

6. Remove the platform from the right side of the fuselage.

7. Repeat step 4 on TR slip rings eventually kept in stock, if their S/N is between 002
and 051 and they are not identified with letter “R” marked after the S/N.

8. Return helicopter to flight configuration and record for compliance of this bollettino
on the component logcard and add the letter “R” after the S/N on the component
logcard.
