NEW TRENDS IN 3 PL
Reading

Exercise 1: Practice reading aloud and then underline the unknown words.
Until a few years ago, companies used to outsource only parts of their logistics operations to
providers specializing in services such as distribution or warehousing. A single company
sometimes had several third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
The globalization of trade and increasing demand for services, however, has led to a drastic
shift in logistics concepts and management with an impact on both producers and logistics
providers.
For 3PLs all over the world, requirements keep getting more demanding with customers asking
for a wider range of logistics solutions. Apart from that, logistics providers today are facing an
increasingly tough and highly competitive market. In recent years, growing pressure on prices
has led to a decrease in profit margins. In order to compensate for this, many third-party
logistics providers now offer value-added services for customers

Exercise 2: Now write your own sentences related to your career.

Dear Mr. Craig

Customer Service Problem

I am writing to complain about the very poor customer service that I have received from your company.

I recently ordered an HP colour printer, which I received yesterday. The printer did not work, so I phoned the
“Customer Service department” but the agent was rude and unhelpful. She told me that I have to pay the cost
of returning the printer to you. However, the guarantee says that faulty products can be returned free of
charge. In addition to this, I did not receive the gift you promised you were going to send me for my
purchase which was a package of 500 bond papers.

I would like you to arrange free collection of the printer immediately, or I will contact the manufacturer,
HP, to make them aware of the poor service your company provides with their products.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Your sincerely,

Alex Masters
