To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great excitement that in December 2019 I will graduate from Jackson College with an
Associate in Applied Science-Nursing. I enjoy all aspects of nursing, as I have had the opportunity to explore
the many units during my clinical experience at Jackson College. One of the units that stood out the most to me
was Behavioral Health. I am very empathetic towards individuals struggling with mental illness and feel that I
would be a great asset to the unit. The reason I would be a great asset is because I feel strongly that I can
provide good therapeutic communication to these individuals, as well as a caring heart willing to help those who
struggle with mental illness.

In my short professional career, I have worked on and off as a CNA in the Jackson area. During my
time as a CNA, I’ve had the opportunity to help many different individuals. I’ve provided care to people when
they were at vulnerable times in their life, as well as being able to bring smiles to their faces during challenging
moments. The connections that I have made with a variety of people helped me to realize that this profession
was exactly what I was meant to do. Being empathetic and caring are qualities that I take great pride in having,
and I look forward to be able to provide these qualities working as an RN. I am eager to learn and grow in the
profession.

I have also worked in a retirement home as a Dietary Aide for a little over a year. During that time, I
acquired customer service skills, as well as learning about different dietary restrictions related to the resident’s
different disease processes. While working as a CNA/ Dietary aide I learned how to work as a team player, I
take pride in the fact that I work well with others and believe that team work and collaboration is an essential
when working in the nursing profession. I look forward to bringing a kind, compassionate attitude to the
workplace.

Sincerely,

Kalen Van Dam
