Practical CLIL Lesson - Make up two activities using CLIL methodology

1. In a chemistry class, it is pretty normal that students don’t recognize the

vocabulary of atoms/molecules/compounds in English (although that most of
the articles, books and information are only available in this language). For that
reason, the first activity I would like to develop is a chemical’s quiz. For this
activity, it will be needed a computer/smartphone for each student (or each
group, this activity could be made individually or in group), and internet access.

The students only have to go to the web:

8e5c-982d0a1eb8c9 (This is a little test of 3 questions I made quickly).

The learners/group of learners who get more correct and quick answers will
earn more points. At the end, there will be shown a podium with the three
best.
This kind of quiz can encourage students to be more active and participating,
and at the same time they are learning and having fun.

2. Keeping on with chemistry classes, I would like to move this activity to the
laboratory. It will be quite simple: Students will run an experiment after reading
an article in English.

Each group of students will choose an experiment from a list I would make.
After that they have to read it and mark every word/name they don’t
understand.

Before running the experiment they will come to me in order to explain to me

every step of the experiment (security is the main rule in the laboratory). When
they get my “ok”, they will carry out the experiment under my supervision.

I let you here one experiment example:

With this activity, learners will be introduced in the chemistry’s world through
the articles, they get laboratory's experiences and English’ skills will be
improved.
