COATED INSULATION

DIAMOND PATTERN PAPER

A DENNISONTM Product

OIL COMPATIBILITY:

The coated paper is compatible with transformer oil when thermally aged and tested per ASTM D3455.
This procedure includes tests for dissipation factor, neutralization number, interfacial tension and
dielectric strength.

BONDING:

The coated paper shall bond firmly and evenly to a conductor or other insulation provided that there is
adequate time, temperature and contact.

BOND TEST: A sample specimen is prepared by using two strips of clean and flattened
aluminum or copper 0.015 to 0.030 inch (.38 to .76 mm) thickness and 2 inches (51 mm) by 6
inches (152 mm) in size; sandwiched on top of four layers of 2 inch (51 mm) squares of coated
paper and then bonded at 2 PSI, 120 C for 1 hour.

The bonded samples are then tested for tensile shear at 100 C with a pull rate of 6 inches (152
mm) per minute and must achieve a shear strength of 40 PSI minimum average; 30 PSI
minimum individual based on 3 samples each.

SHELF LIFE:

When stored in a controlled atmosphere, the "B Stage" coated paper will have an extended shelf life. For
paper stored in normal warehouse conditions, out of direct sunlight and away from direct moisture, we
recommend that it be used within 12 months.

PACKAGING:

Coated paper is supplied in sheets or rolls. Rolls are wound on a 3 inch (76 mm) ID core and wrapped
with a poly lined kraft paper (moisture barrier). Rolls are packaged vertically on pallets and banded
vertically and horizontally.

LABELING:

Each roll is marked to the customer specification.

RETENTION OF BURSTING STRENGTH:

Initial Bursting Strength is determined per ASTM D202, using Model C tester for thicknesses 0.005 and
0.007 inch (0.127 & 0.178 mm) and Model A tester for thicknesses 0.010 and 0.015 inch (0.250 & 0.380
mm).

Permissible changes in the Bursting Strength after aging in oil is measured per ASTM D774.

THERMAL UPGRADING CONTENT:

1.5 to 2.0% Nitrogen Content by weight when using approved thermal upgrading chemicals per ASTM
D982 or other methods approved by purchaser. Thermal upgrading content is 1.5 times organic nitrogen
content.
