Dear Human Resources,

With the utmost enthusiasm, I am writing to you to apply for the Associate
Technical Director position at Oregon Shakespeare Festival. I was referred to your
opening from your Scenic Charge Artist, Gabriel Barrera. You will find my interests and
qualifications match the position perfectly.
As a student in the technical direction field, I find myself working hard to hone
my skills and to become a desirable member of a team. From a young age, I have always
been one who was interested in building, construction, and engineering. I was the kid
who would take apart his toys and make something new out of them. It is always fun
breaking down something and problem solving to get it to work. This has helped me as
I look at scenic designs and breaking them down into technical ground plans and
construction drawings. My strongest skill as a technical director is being able to create
crisp, organized drawings. When I draft, I make sure that my drawings can be read and
understood by everyone so there are minimal mistakes during build. I also make my
drawings clear enough, so if something happens to me, they can still be followed. As a
technical director, I find times I can hop in and work on projects with my crew. This
allows me to get to know my crew members better and to help show that not all the
grunt work will fall on them. It also helps crew members feel more included to a scenic
team and helps keep the morale of a scene shop in higher spirits.
With my experience, dedication to the field, and passion for your mission
statement, I believe I would make a great candidate to the Oregon Shakespeare
Festival’s team. I have a passion not only for theatre and construction but also to change
the world to be more progressive and to make everyone feel equal.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

Anthony Lee
