Hosting of Educational Seminar of the APSR [ESAP]

Date/Venue: August 6-7, 2014, Manila Philippines
Theme: State of the Art in Pulmonology: Convergence in Practice

The recently conducted Educational Seminar of APSR (ESAP) by the PCCP was a joint Mid-Year
Convention of the Society last August 6-7, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza, Quezon City, Metro Manila,
Philippines. The 2-day conference was envisioned to create a platform for the exchange of up-to-
date information, expertise, and perspectives in the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine,
complement didactic sessions with hands-on workshops to enhance the learning experience of
participants and to address potential challenges in view of the “ASEAN integration” concept.

The APSR Education Committee actively participated in the approval of the Scientific Program
and appointed Professor Kazuhisa Takahashi, from the Department of Respiratory Medicine,
Juntendo University, as one of the plenary speakers. Professor Takahashi talked about the latest
updates on Advances of Lung Cancer Treatment. The APSR Executive Committee was ably
represented by the Treasurer, Dr. Teresita de Guia, from the opening ceremonies until the
culmination of the scientific activity.

A total of 670 delegates attended the Manila ESAP despite the monsoon rains heightened by
typhoon Halong which caused flooding and traffic jams in the streets of Metro Manila.

The recently concluded Manila ESAP accomplished again the PCCP’s goal to promote greater
involvement, collaborative partnership and strategic alliances with Asian and international
organizations relating to academe, clinical and policy-making activities.

• The PCCP, an enbloc country member of the APSR, was ably represented at the APSR
Congress Bali, November 2014 by the President, Dr. CR Carungin and the following Councilors:
