Is it reasonable to ask somene to disregard what others thing or him/her?

Without
the perception of others, we are unable to objectively assess, or for lack of a
better word, judge, our own selves. A self that you would be proud to present to
others is , very likely, a self that you yourself would be pleased with.
Can a mirror or a paper in which you write your thoughts accomplish the same? I
don't think so, your perception would still be blurred. Only by projecting the
other's view in out own head can we begin to fathom our objective image.
