IT’S TIME

The meaning is that something should be done before it’s too late, or that it should have been
done already.
 The expression it’s time is followed by the past form when it is followed by a new
subject.

IT’ S TIME + NEW SUBJECT + PAST SIMPLE

 It’s time is followed by the infinitive when there is only one subject.

IT’S TIME + TO INFINITIVE

WOULD RATHER
It’s used to show preference. It has a present and future meaning.
 When we use would rather to show what we want someone else to do, it’s followed
by the past simple

I + WOULD RATHER + NEW SUBJECT + PAST SIMPLE

 Would rather is followed by the root of the verb form when there is only one subject.

I + WOULD RATHER + ROOT OF THE VERB

1. A friend suggests going to a party. You would like to go to a disco.

2. You and your friend are both hungry. Your friend suggests a Chinese meal. You prefer
Thai food.

3. It’s raining. Your friend suggests walking home. You want to take a taxi.

4. You are having a drink with a friend. You have to arrive home before 9 p.m. It’s now
8.30 p.m.

5. You’re looking after a small child. It’s 11 o’clock. You think he ought to go to bed.

6. You feel tired. You think you need a holiday
