Introduction:
Deforestation is defined by as the cutting down and removal of all or most
of the trees in a forested area. Deforestation results from removal of trees without
sufficient reforestation this process alters the hydrologic cycle, altering the amount of
water in the soil and groundwater and the moisture in the atmosphere. Deforestation
can erode soils, contribute to desertification and the pollution of waterways, and
decrease biodiversity through the destruction of habitat. Deforestation is considered to
be a main convibutor to the greenhouse effect. Some of the major environmental
problems related with deforestation are lowering biodiversity, desiccation of soil that
used to be moist, increase in temperature extremes, less recycling of water, global
warming, more desertification, and soil erosion. Forests support considerable
biodiversity, providing valuable habitat for wildlife. In this website, the environmental
ethics of deforestation will be evaluated in terms of facts, technical issues, kadership
issues, and ethical issues.
Deforestation is clearing Earth's forests on a massive scale, often
resulting in damage to the quality of the land. Forests still cover about 30 percent of
the world's land area, but swaths the size of Panama is lost each and every year
(National Geographic). Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are
related to money or to people's need to provide for their families. The biggest driver of
deforestation is agriculture. Farmers cut forests to provide more room for planting
crops or grazing livestock. Often many small farmers will each clear a few acres to
feed their families by cutting down trees and bunting them in a proce. known as "slash
and bum" agriculture.
Logging operations, which provide the world's wood and paper products,
also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build
roads to access more and more remote forests—which lead to further deforestation.
Forests are also cut as a result of growing urban sprawl. Not all deforestation is
intentional. Some is caused by a combination of human and natural factors like
wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees.

2
Reasons:

Logging:
Illegal logging activities are very common that destroy the livelihoods of the people
depending on forests. Wood-based industries like paper, match-sticks, furniture need a
substantial amount of wood supply. Wood is used as fuel most commonly and so large
amount of trees are cut down for fuel supplies. Firewood and charcoal are used as fuel.

Agricultural Activities
The conversion of forests into agricultural land is a big reason for deforestation. Due to
overgrowing demand for food products, many trees are chopped down for crops and for
cattle grazing. Over 40% of the forests are cleaned to obtain land and meet the needs of
agriculture and wood.

Mining
Oil and mining of coal require a large amount of forest land. Construction of roads leads to
deforestation as they provide the way to remote land. The waste that comes out from
mining pollutes the environment and affects the nearby species.

Urbanization
As the population grows, the needs of people increases which further leads to
deforestation. Forests shrink to a great extent to meet the requirements like for
construction of roads, development of houses, mineral exploitation and expansion of
industries. Increasing population directly affects forest as with the expansion of cities there
is a need for more land for housing and settlements.

Timber Production
One of the primary cause of deforestation is the production of timber. There is a lot of
demand for timber and so deforestation increases. It a source of raw material which is used
for the production of paper and also for construction.

Forest Fires

We lose a large number of trees each year due to fires in the forest in various portions
worldwide. This happens due to extreme summers and winters. The fire caused, by man or
nature, results in huge loss of forest cover.

My Opinion on Deforestation:

I believe deforestation is horrible. Deforestation is harmful and affects everyone and

everything in the Earth in multiple amounts of ways. Deforestation affects our water
cycle. It affects our climate changes and causes over 70% of animals and plants to lose
their habitat. This issue also affects our human society.
Our government and society are too selfish to even think about the numerous downfalls of
deforestation. Yes, deforestation is good because we can use the land to build more houses,
communities, shopping centers, highways, interstates, etc. BUT while we're building all of
these things and tearing down forest we're basically killing ourselves because forest supply
us with food, shelter, medicine(s) and we're not even paying attention to what we're doing.
Deforestation is cruel to the animals and plants that need that land to survive and were being
cruel to ourselves by subtracting our resources.

4
Suggestions on Deforestation:
Trees play a vital role in protecting our environment in several ways so we should protect
the forest:

 The best way to stop deforestation is replanting.

 Ban on cutting of trees and new trees and planting more.
 There should be an implementation of regulations of laws at organizational and
governmental levels due to the extent of deforestation.
 Spread the awareness about sensitization and organize educative campaigns about
the effects of deforestation.

Objectives Of the Deforestation:

 The main aim of the deforestation is to reduce the cutting of the trees.
 Trees give the purified oxygen which is necessary for most of the living things.
 Trees help to give the fresh air and also help to get the rain.
 Water is the necessary one.

Conclusion:

Thus, deforestation is an important issue to be discussed. It has adverse

effects on each living beings' life. Deforestation has become a huge concern in today's
life as there has been a rise in the decline of forests. Trees are cut down in order to
manufacture paper products as well as for livestock farming and so on.

In order to feed the ever increasing population of the Earth, trees and
forests are converted to farm lands. This has become a threat to the world and it has
been seen that rates of decline in the forests are increasing at a rapid rate. This has led
the planet to warm up and leading to high temperatures. This cycle would continue for
the following years to come unless necessary steps are taken to prevent deforestation.
Deforestation has caused fewer trees to grow. It has also gone a long way in eliminating
valuable ecosystems in the planet.

5
If major steps towards afforestation are not taken, then even the great
adaptability of human beings may not be enough to cope up with the harsh climate of
the future. Deforestation does have solutions. It's just that the people must step forward.
The safe keeping of our precious planet lies with each and every member of its human
population. We are the ones accountable for our actions even though it is ourselves we
are accountable too.
