I want to know some basic thumb rules to give pipe rack loading Key:
Admin,
Global Mod,
to structural, without doing any formal stress analysis. Mod

Incase you want actual UDL for Pipe size 10" and below pipes,

Loc: India calculate the dead weight, operating and hydro weight considering

pipes to be supported as simply supported beam. 05/09/18 04:29 PM
Based on the intermediate beams(span) and pipe rack width
(occupied width) covert reaction to UDL either KN/m2 or KN/m.

In case of vertical load (UDL) for Dia 10" and below a minimum Days)
of 1.75KN/m2 may be used.

Horizontal loads: Vanman 15
For high temperature lines(typically greater than 200 Deg C) and Chill-N 15
Pipe size greater than 10", perfrom stress analysis to get lateral vermaccio 13
loads and axial loads, Richard Ay 13
For other lines(<=10") use limiting friction value to get horizontal
loads.

Hope this helps.

difficult (lack of input availability).

Loc: India
UDL format loading (Typically Pipe size 10" and below) helps us
to give estimated load more accurately. (Since Ex: In a bunch of
7 lines, if some line sizes increase/decrease effective change in
UDL would be less and In case of change in the spacing between
pipes changes or line is moved across the section of rack, the
UDL will have little changes)

Typically for a Rack, vertical load (UDL) for Dia 10" and below a
minimum of 1.75KN/m2 is good to go.

UDL format loading:

Total Ope weight (kg/m)=Density of Pipe Material (kg/m3)*
Metal Area (m2)+ fluid wt (Fluid density *C/S area) +Insulation
wt (if any)
Total Ope weight (kg/m) = Total weight* Factor (1.1)
Total Ope weight (kg/m2)=Total Ope weight (kg/m)/Occupied
width
Similarly calculate HYD Weight and Empty Weight.

Horizontal loads:

Fix guide bays and anchor bays initially,

Upon fixing them, for Pipe size 10"and below (temperature <200
Deg C) use limiting friction as guide/limit load.
For other lines,
Perform stress analysis to get lateral loads and axial loads.
