Ysulan, Charle F. “History and Culture in the Eyes of Ilonggo Learners”.

Abstract

This study anchored to the descriptive type of research aimed to determine the

knowledge of Ilonggo learners in history and culture of Iloilo City. The quantitative method was

used and the participants of the study were the selected Grade 10 Junior High School Students

of 2 schools from public and private enrolled for school year 2018-2019. The categorization of

the respondents enabled the researchers to analyze whether the independent variables like sex,

type of school, and family income of Ilonggo learners significantly affected their Knowledge in

History and Culture of Iloilo City. The results given by the respondents were tabulated and had

computation processed using statistical treatments such as Frequency, Mean, Standard

Deviation, t-test, and One-way ANOVA. Based on the results, Ilonggo learners were found out

as “Partly Knowledgeable” in history of Iloilo City when taken as a whole and even grouped into

sex, type of school, and family income and “Partly Knowledgeable” in culture of Iloilo City when

taken as a whole and grouped into sex. However, it was found out that public schools are

“Knowledgeable” in culture than public school. The same with family income, learners whose

family income is high are considered “Knowledgeable compared to learners whose family

income is low and average. Sex was not able to determine the significant differences in history

and but in type of school, it revealed significant differences using t-test. Then, in family income,

significant differences were found out too using One Way ANOVA. Meanwhile, sex wasn’t

determined significant difference in culture of Iloilo City while significant differences was visible

in type of school. Furthermore, family income doesn’t revealed significant differences too.

Lastly, there was a high positive correlation between history and culture.
