ESSAY WRITING

Dos’ and don’ts of Essay:


1. One should make practice on essays; don’t learn it, but get yourself trained.
2. Selection of wrong topic; (what have you prepared, attempt), (choose not what you
think is unique or different, but what is in long practice)
3. Follow traditional style of essay; traditional structure.
4. You have to fulfill requirement of essay exactly. What numbers are often told to
write, you should go for it.
5. Write, write and write!
6. Write effective and obvious style of writing so as to define your stance
comprehensively; do not write ambiguously.
7. Improve your grammar and spellings.
8. Do not miss logical sequence; keep your writing order in a proper manner.
9. Prove your statement of topic; scarcely had you contradicted your statement, you
would fail essay.

CHOOSING THE TOPIC:
1. Read all the topics portrayed in paper.
2. Reread again.
3. Understand between the lines; terminology, and direction examiner asks, demands.
4. Circle two topics at least that you think you can hit very well or which you have
already attempted.
5. Choose your comfort zone.
6. Prefer not to choose different or unique topic to satisfy examiner (Satisfy yourself
not the examiner whom do you think is necessary).
7. No experiments.
8. It is you who makes him think anything (don’t become too scary of him)
9. Avoid literary essay.

STATEMENT OF TOPIC / THESIS STATEMENT


(How do you view topic? Prove your stance, once you have taken.)

Write your statement of topic in an inclusive style or pattern so that you can bring more
variables, more dimensions.

e.g.

1. Future of democracy in Pakistan is bright due to recent developments.


2. Gender equality is a myth due to socio-cultural patterns.

Once you write two to three dimensional ideas, you cannot explain them in 2500 words.

OUTLINE MAKING
There are initially four steps to help you out in making a perfect outline.

1. RANDOM IDEDAS – write all ideas that you think could help you in this essay from
any nook or corner.
2. QUALIFCIATION – Take relevant and leave irrelevant and duplication.
3. LOGICAL SEQUENCE – from most important to least important, from most
relevant to least relevant.
4. CONTEXTUALIZING – to write outline in sentence form.

TIMELINE OF ESSAY:
Paper starts at 9 am in the morning. You have to consume five minutes at least in reading
topics again and again. Once you have selected topic, the next five minutes should be for
writing statement of the topic. Initially, you gave first ten minutes in selection of topic and
writing a beautiful statement. Now if you want to secure your very attempt, make a rough
draft of outline and introduction. Writing this introduction will surely help you write clean
and obvious paragraph and will no room for error to be found. Rest of your timing is
scheduled for official paper attempting. Good Luck!

INTRODUCTION
Explain our stance, logic, sequence, and relevancy in introduction beautifully.

Write a rough draft before writing it officially on paper.

Introduction (DIVIDED INTO THREE SECTIONS)

Opening Part (4 lines) From General to specific, Statement of the topic

Body part (12/14 lines) Prove the statement stating multiple factors
(Relevancy & Content)
Concluding part (4 lines) Hope Orientation, specific to General

PARAGRAPHING
It is further divided into three sections.

Topic Sentence: Discuss/ Highlight the main idea in the first and foremost sentence.
(Hit the topic sentence with exact idea)

Argument/Discussion Part: There are various dimensions on which you have to discuss.
DIMENSIONS (historically, socially, culturally, economically, religiously,
psychologically, philosophically, regionally, comparative analysis, data and statics, examples,
quotations, reports and researches, expert opinions)

Concluding Part: Endorsement; Logical Sequence

CONCLUDING WRITING
Write down five to six chief measures in suggestions.
Conclusion comes when you are about to come on natural climax.
Don’t add any new point in the conclusion.
You must be confident and satisfied with the stance you have taken in essay.
Write simple and obvious style of writing.
