Reading Notes
In November, we will be focusing on the
following letters/sounds: Pp, Cc, Ii & Nn. Our new
high-frequency words are: we, my, like, he, & for.
Please review the previous high-frequency
words: a, am, have, I, is, little, the, & to.

Math Notes
So far in math we have been exploring the
numbers 0-9. We have learned to count, write
and compare these numbers. We will continue to
practice these skills as we move into Chapter 4.
In this Chapter we will be comparing all
numbers 0-10.

50th Day!
Friday November 8th will be the 50th day
of school! We will celebrate this day
number 50! Your child is invited to dress
in 1950’s attire for the day.
Scholastic Book Fair
The scholastic book fair will be visiting
center school! Our class will be visiting on
November 4th.

Social Studies
…
In September and October we have focused the majority of our social studies lessons on
building a classroom community. We regularly review our classroom and school rules. We
enjoyed our visit from the Mattapoisett Fire Station during Fire Safety Week. I hope everyone
has practiced a fire drill at home, and has established a safe meeting place. This month we will
continue to discuss our class rules and community. We will also be discussing Election Day,
Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.

Science
We made several observations of our classroom pumpkins, inside and out!!! We also explored
small pumpkins, gourds, and apples in our science center. We learned about spiders and
bats. This month we will discuss different animal habitats, and hibernation. We will also
continue to discuss weather and seasons.

My many thanks to our classroom Room Parent Colleen Kennefick for organizing
a most memorable Halloween party! A warm-hearted thank you to all the
families who made this so special for the children. You are a most generous
group and the students and I appreciate all you do for us!
 Weather
The weather is starting to get colder as we enter
further into fall. Please make sure your child has a
coat, hat and mittens for recess on those chilly
days!
** Please have your child practice, zippering,
buttoning, snapping his/her coat. This will enable us
to have more quality time outside on the
playground equipment. Some of the coats have
tricky zippers!
** Remember to put your child’s initials on
her/her coat, vest, gloves, hat, etc. as it makes it
much easier to return lost items.
**Feel free to send in a lotion or a chapstick for
your child to keep in his/her cubby. Any of these
products must be free of coconut oils, shea
butter, fragrances, etc. Please stick to products
with simple ingredients (Vaseline, Aveeno, Eucerin.
etc.). Please be diligent checking product labels.

**Parts of the building can be chilly at times. If
possible, please have your child keep an extra
sweater or sweatshirt in their backpack or cubby.
Volunteers
Classroom volunteering will start this month; if you
are scheduled to come in I will be sending home a
calendar soon! If you would like to come in and are
not already scheduled please contact me with your
availability. Please remember all volunteers MUST
fill out a CORI with the office before they can
come in.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Guided Reading
Guided Reading will be starting this
month! Your child will bring home a book
at some point during the week. For the
remainder of the week and over the
weekend, they can read it to whomever
they would like, at least 3 times. They
will return these books to school every
Monday.
Book Clubs
My thanks to everyone who participated
in the September and October Book
Clubs. We have already earned many
free books for our classroom! Book
orders and payments are due by Tues.
Nov. 12th.. If you would like to order
online, our class code is HXCJR. Please
consider supporting the PTA as well by
ordering from the Book Fair!
Wish List
My sincere thanks to everyone who has
contributed wish list items to our
classroom. Wish List items will continue
to be found in the newsletter. Again, I
thank you for supporting our
Kindergarten.
