Labeling Standard

1. INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this document is to describe the network equipment


and cable labeling standard for JKR – ICT project. Any labeling
standard other than this is considered as none comply and can not be
implemented on site.

2. EQUIPMENT RACK LABELING CONVENTION

All Network Equipment rack must be of front lockable tempered glass


door. The Network Equipment Rack in the Network System are named
and labeled according to a specific Labeling convention that allows easy
identification of the equipment including type and location.

The Labeling Convention is as follows:

Building Name
Building Level
Rack Number

Where,

Building Name is “A” for ‘Blok A’, “B” for ‘Blok B’, etc.

Building Level is “1” for Level 1, “2” for Level 2, “3” for Level 3, etc.

Rack Number is “1” for Rack number 1 on that floor.

Where,

Building Name is “A” for ‘Blok A’, “B” for ‘Blok B’, etc.

Building Level is “1” for Level 1, “2” for Level 2, “3” for Level 3, etc.

Rack Number is “3” for Rack number 3 on that floor.

3. SWITCH LABELING CONVENTION

The Switches within the Network System are named and labeled
according to a specific Labeling convention that allows easy
identification of the equipment including type and location.

The Labeling Convention is as follows:

Building Name
Building Level
Rack Number
Switch Number in Rack

Where,

Building Name is “A” for ‘Blok A’, “B” for ‘Blok B’, etc.

Building Level is “0” for Ground Level, “1” for Level 1, “2” for Level 2,
etc.

Rack Number is “1” for Rack number 1 on that floor.

Switch Number in Rack is “1” for the 1st switch in that rack.

4. DATA AND VOICE OUTLET LABELING CONVENTION

The DATA and VOICE outlets are named and labeled according to a
specific Labeling convention that allows easy identification of the
structured cabling including type and location.

The Labeling Convention is as follows:

Building Name
Building Level
Rack Number
Port Number
Outlet Type

Where,

Building Name is “B” for ‘Blok A’, “C” for ‘Blok C’, etc.

Building Level is “1” for Level 1, “2” for Level 2, “3” for Level 2, etc.

Rack Number is “1” for Rack number 1 on that floor.

Port Number is “10” for Port Number 10 on patch panel.

Outlet Type is “D” for Data Outlet, “V” for Voice Outlet.

Building Name is “B” for ‘Blok A’, “C” for ‘Blok C’, etc.

Port Number is “10” for Port Number 10 on patch panel.

Outlet Type is “V” for Voice Outlet.

Colour: GREEN for Voice

5. UTP PATCH PANEL LABELING CONVENTION

Ports on the UTP Patch Panel in the same rack shall be labeled
continuously, in sequence. E.g.: If UTP Patch Panel #1 has port
numbers 1 to 24, then UTP Patch Panel #2 shall use port numbers 25
to 48 and so on.

6. UTP PATCH CORD LABELING CONVENTION

UTP Patch Cord in the same rack shall be labeled continuously at both
end, in sequence. E.g.: If UTP Patch Cords on Patch Panel #1 has
patch cord numbers 1 to 24, then UTP Patch Cords on Patch Panel #2
shall use numbers 25 to 48 and so on.

Label holder shall be made of durable plastic and can be safely tied to
the cable.

7. FIBRE PATCH PANEL LABELING CONVENTION

All fiber port shall be of SC type connector. The top part of the ports
shall be labeled with the Building|Level. Rack Number where the fibre
cable originates from and shall be labeled in pairs. For example: if the
fibre cable on ports 1-2 and 3-4 originates from TCR/IT Room, Level 1,
‘A’ Block, then the top part shall be labeled “A1.1”.

The bottom part of the ports on the Fibre Patch Panel in the same rack
shall be labeled continuously, in sequence. E.g.: If Fibre Patch Panel
#1 has port numbers 1 to 12, then Fibre Patch Panel #2 shall use port
numbers 13 to 24 and so on.

8. FIBRE PATCH CORD LABELING CONVENTION

Fibre Patch Cord in the same rack shall be labeled continuously at both
end, in sequence. E.g.: If Fibre Patch Cords on Patch Panel #1 has
patch cord numbers 1 to 12, then Fibre Patch Cords on Patch Panel #2
shall use numbers 13 to 24 and so on.

Label holder shall be made of durable plastic and can be safely tied to
the cable.
