Chapter 1

Introduction

Mobile Legends is arguably one of the most popular mobile games currently being
played. While its premise is interesting enough, what really keeps players glued to their
smartphones are the updates from game developer Moonton. The most recent Mobile
Legends update brought in several new additions to the game. Players not only have a new
interface to get used to, but they’re introduced to new heroes as well. Read on to get the
lowdown and prepare yourself for what’s ahead. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is one of the
most lightweight MOBA that you can download for your phone. It can run smoothly even on
low end android devices as long as you have at least 1gb ram with android 4.0.3 version. The
Game Itself is just 69mb so it won’t hurt your memory. It is created by China Developers on
Moontoon Technology Co. Ltd and Mobile legends : Bang Bang is a multiplayer online arena
popularity known as “MOBA” it is created by Moontoon Developers and it is released last
November 2016 Mobile Legends is considered as real time strategy game where a player
controls a single type of character of his desired preference in one of the two teams the
objective of the two teams is to destroy the enemy’s base or we called it as inhibitor it is
look like in league of legends it is the same of objective kill the enemy then push the current
tower in your lane and it has three lane the TOP ,MID and the last is BOTTOM and you have
to defend your base with the assistance(minions) of periodically spawned the computer-
controlled units who fight forward with you along the set paths. Controls in Mobile Legends:
Bang Bang are slightly different. You will have a virtual joystick on your lower right corner
surrounded by three ability skills.
The researchers choose this study to know what was the effects of mobile legends
to the academic performance of a student.

Theoretical Framework

Game theory is the study of human conflict and cooperation within a competitive
situation. In some respects, game theory is the science of strategy, or at least the optimal
decision-making of independent and competing actors in a strategic setting. The key
pioneers of game theory were mathematicians John von Neumann and John Nash, as well as
economist Oskar Morgenstern.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the related works of a number of local and foreign authors, other
researchers, developers and reference such as internet which are all necessary in framing of
the concept of the study.

Local

According to The Pinoy Insights (2019), Michael Tumagan passed away because of
getting ill since he’s been addicted playing Mobile Legends. He had stage 4 Colon Cancer and
he needed help from netizens for his operation bills. He got viral when he posted a photo of
him at the hospital looking so thin and weakened. Michael confessed that he rarely ate and
slept because he wanted to play more of Mobile Legends every day. “If I could go back on
past just to stop having a sickness, not taking care of my health, being addicted on ML and to
the point that I’m not eating and sleeping healthy. Now this is what happened to me
therefore all things shouldn’t be much” - Michael said to his facebook posted and had one
thousand shared post. Many netizens mourned and saying that they’ll uninstalling Mobile
Legends because it’s dangerous being addicted to it . It’s not bad if you play it sometimes
but it’s not fine to forgot taking care of yourself because of one game. Somebody didn’t
believe that ML was the cause of his sickness. The creators of the game didn’t want their
players to be careless of their health. They mourned too but they don’t want to be discredit
because of this case.

According to ABS-CBN news (2018), one of the reason Filipinos was pleased is that
Lapu-lapu was along with the characters. There were many celebrities played MLBB as their
stress-reliever, hobby or pastime. Some of them play it just to earn money.

According to Alodia Gosiengfiao (2018), she is a streamer and played a lot of games.
One of those is Mobile Legends. She could earn money form it by videoing herself while
she’s playing it and share strategies.

According to ABS-CBN (2018), Andy and Erwin got in relationship because they been
playing mobile legends. They met at the event until they become a team mate. After long
ago Erwin confessed his love to Andy.

In addition, (2018) there’s a former report that a 23-years-old named Mhary Mundoc
Idanan got stroke while she’s playing Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Her family checked her
Blood pressure, and the result is very high. Afterwards she was hospitalized at Quezon City
General Hospital. She played long hours every day and restless.

Foreign

According to Reddit, (2019) Unknown guy posted his reason why he stopped playing
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. He wrote - “this relatively brief post to help everyone who
suffers from addicting this game (like I was) know why their fellow quit the game.” He
started playing the game back in February 2018 and he deleted it at the beginning of 2019.
This is his second and definitely last deletion. He deleted it once for only 3 months.
Therefore, He played the game for a total of 8 months.
He bought skins, starlight memberships, he gifted skins, he received skins, and he made
many friends from different countries. The reasons why he quit the game are divided into
main problems -
1- The Company’s greed and creed. The company naturally tries to gain money. One way to
do that is to design new heroes. In order for the game to get more people to buy a hero,
they make him ridiculously strong, affecting the balance of the match, the fairness of the
play, and ultimately killing the fun, making you pissed off instead of amazed at an
opponent’s skills otherwise.
2- The Community. MOBA communities are generally known to not being the nicest. As for
his experience, the community of Mobile Legends is often unbearable. He got pissed off
almost every day at all sorts of acts from trash-talking because two players can’t act like
adults. He thought “Why does a game make me feel the opposite of what a game supposed
to make me feel?”
3- The Friends. Most of the friends that he met in Mobile Legends, and probably all MOBAs
are only his friends because they expect him to help them win.
4- His thoughts. Even if he became a really high leveled player, what does that add to him or
to who he is? Reaching high ranks does not rank up his personality. It only ranks up my
gaming account.
5- His personal problem is addiction - which stems to (A) health problems, involving his eyes
- it twitched, blink, itch and ache on movement. However, he said it is now better after rest.
Also, His neck - it cracks when he moved his head up. (B) Economical problems - it’s not just
because he spent money on the game which he could spend somewhere else, it’s also
because he neglected his small business completely! (C) Social problems - He don’t see his
family and friends as often. He doesn’t like to receive calls because it will affect his game. (D)
Fitness problems - Because of his addiction, He don’t have a regular exercise and he felt like
he lost his endurance. He decided to give it all away because his life doesn’t deserve to be
wasted on that game. He gave this game enough efforts and money and this doesn’t mean
he have to give even more.

According to IGN SEA, (2018) Fuad 'Fredo' Alili is the one the most known players in
the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competitive scene, even earning himself the MVP title of the
regular season for Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) MY/SG Season 1. He was kind
enough to spare a couple of minutes to talk to us while he was at Jakarta, Indonesia
competing at the Mobile Legends Southeast Asian Cup (MSC). He discussed about how
playing at MSC was able to help his team, AirAsia Saiyan, improve and also how impressed
he was at the Indonesian fans at MSC 2018. According to Craton, J. (2009), the physical
consequences of Online gaming addiction includes the Carpel tunnel syndrome in which the
main nerve between the forearm and hand is squeezed or pressed. A migraine headache
that normally begins in a small spot and slowly spreads and giving you more pain that can
cause you to vomit. Sleep disturbance which includes insomnia and narcolepsy. The gamers
while stay on one position for a long period of time cause of backache. Lack of movement
that can cause stiffness and soreness, worse, it can cause chronic back problems. Eating
irregularities, the addicted gamers cannot exert time to eat or they will eat improperly. The
physical consequences of a gamer depend on the physical condition or status of the gamer.
Yet the rigidness of the physical consequences is frequently parallel to the level of addiction
but this is not the constant instance. (CRaton, J.2 00 9)

According to Goodnews Pilipinas, (2018) An all-Filipino finals game secured recognition

for Filipino gamers as the best in Southeast Asia, with Aether Main (now Bren Esports)
winning the grand champion title at the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) Party of
Legends held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Aether Main’s 6-member squad, Renz Carlo (Pein) Reyes,
Yuji (Yuji) Aizawa, CJ (Ribo) Ribo, Ralph Mico (Coco) Sampang, Matthew “666” Mandilag,
and, Jeniel (YellyHaze) Bata-anon, claimed the championship at the MSC 2018 after being
pitted against fellow Filipinos from Digital Devils Professional Gaming. The two Esports
teams from the Philippines faced off in Indonesia fresh from their final appearance at the
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League – Philippines held in Manila where Aether
Main also emerged victorious. Aether Main went home with their trophy and a prize pot of
$50,476 (₱2,683,304). Digital Devils Professional Gaming’s Lester (Tets) Santos, Angelo Kyle
(Pheww) Arcangel, Erwin (Yakou) Magno, Marc Jayson (Eson) Gerardo, Marc Danielle (Dee)
San Luis, and Kevin (Bluffzy) Reyes finished 1st Runner Up to their compatriots and brought
home the prize amounting to $27,238 (₱1,448,108). Aether Main and Digital Devils
Professional Gaming outlasted eight teams from six Southeast Asian countries to earn their
spots in the MSC 2018 Grand Finals. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a popular mobile game in
the Philippines and its popularity was acknowledged by the inclusion of Filipino national
hero Lapu-lapu as a hero on the popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game. The
new MSC grand champions, Aether Main, was recently acquired by Bren Esports and is
coached by Akosi Dogie and managed by Shultzein Von Lebranco.

In addition, (2018) the gamer named iFlekzz was quitting playing Mobile Legends: Bang
Bang. The main reason is that there are no tournaments in Europe. He really liked the
competitiveness of a game so he decided to switch to Arena of Valor. He said he made it so
far that when he playing it professionally for his team 'Nova eSports'! He’ll be making more
Arena of Valor content for his Youtube channel.

According to NextSharks - Asian American news (2007), 21-years-old woman, who goes
by the pseudonym Xiao Wu, self-employed in Dongguan, China goes blind in her right eye
after playing mobile legends for entire day. She was hospitalized at Donggiang Huaxia Eye
Hospital on October 2, where doctors diagnosed her with retinal artery occlusion, a painless
loss of monocular vision. The condition normally occurs in elderly people and is irreversible,
resulting in permanent loss of vision. She was rushed in hospital after she felt a weird
sensation in her eye the night before, according to news.yzz.cn. When she is on vacation,
she can play for 7 or 8 hours a day. She will play all day from the blink of an eye, often eating
and sleeping. On the night, she often played in the early hours of the morning.

Setting of the study

Vicinity map of Taytay Rizal. There goes the usual language-barrier-story of a Spanish
friar who asked a local boy where on earth he was. For the puzzled kid just did not
understand Español, he shouted out “Tatay, Tatay!” in order to call his father’s attention to
be the one to deal with the said stranger. Thence, the friar came to believe that the name of
the place was Taytay. On one hand, a variation of this version puts it that the friar was
elated when he thought he heard the kid calling him “taita,” a Spanish word synonymous
to “padre” that also meant “father, daddy or uncle.” As a welcome gesture, the friar fondly
named the place Taita.

It metamorphosed to Taitay, then Taytay. Since then, Tatay, Padre, Tata, have
become revered words among Taytayeños. The new word Unte (uncle or aunt) was also
added to the vernacular. We recognize the historical fact that the best of the Religious
missionaries, also known as the “Paladins of Cloth”—the likes of Padre Juan Portocarrero de
Plasencia, the linguist; Padre Diego de Oropesa, the charity-servant; Padre Pedro Chirino,
the historian; Padre Antonio Sedeño, the administrator-educator; Padre Juan de Salazar, the
architect-builder; Blessed Padre Diego Luis de Sanvitores and joined by Saint Pedro
Calungsod, just to name a few—had set foot in Taytay and zealously worked from the very
start of the town’s and parish’s foundation. With fitting reverence, we may address
them Padre, Tata, Unte, or even Tatay!

ACLC College Main Building

Procedure of the Study

The researchers will create title and defend on our panel so we can proceed to our
research and until we do the problem and its background then after doing the background
we do the theoretical framework so we got idea on how people study gaming behavior the
conceptual frame work will be the blue print of the strategy then after doing that we do the
statement of the problem so we have the idea on how we can create questioner the
research locale will be the map on how we create this study or were we conduct the study
and were getting information on how local and foreign study have their similarities the
research design would be the blue print of this study the setting of the study is also like in
research locale it is also the same procedure the source of data will be the base on how we
get our ideas that’s all for now.
