PROJECT DETAILS

TOPIC: GATING SYSTEM OF WIND MILL HUB CASTING

DESCRIPTION:- In this project we are seeking to create an improved casting design of wind
mill hub. The windmill hub is that portion of the wind mill which houses the bearing and has
provision for attaching the blades. We have worked out various design calculations which are
used in developing the design in accordance with the requirements instead of using grey cast
iron. We selected a new casting material called SG (spheroidal graphite iron) which has higher
machinability, higher corrosion resistance, low weight and stronger than cast iron in the
improved design. we have to eliminated extra cores on the outer side of the hub as the same was
not necessary. Finally establish a new design calculation of runner, riser, sprue, gate based on
new material SG iron and minimize the identified defect.
