Introduction (Exercise)

Physical inactivity is one of the four leading risk factors for global mortality that have grown to
become one of the world’s biggest killer (Hoeger and Hoeger 2012) According to World Health
Organization, insufficient participation in physical activity because of increase in sedentary
lifestyle or behavior. Because of sedentary duties like sitting at the headquarters desk and writing
up reports, police officers have a hard time in maintaining their fitness. Cops should be aware
that physical inactivity will eventually lead them to different diseases such as high cholesterol,
high blood pressure, diabetes or in worst case scenario, stroke or heart attack. Physical fitness is
vital to every police or law enforcement officer. It is necessary for them to be healthy and
physically fit to perform their line of work which is to fight criminals and to protect the innocent
people. According to Canadian Carrier College, in the area of physical functioning, proper
fitness helps the officer maintain physical health and energy, and enables him to increase his
stamina and strength. Also the officer in good physical condition is less likely to contract
disease. In the area of emotional functioning, fitness controls excessive stress and promotes
emotional stability. Intellectual functioning increases mental alertness and learning potential and
improves problem solving ability. There are many ways that a police officer improved their
physical fitness or activity. This will benefit not just the police officer, because they can inspire
ordinary people to do the same thing or to the activity every now and then. Citizens or people
living an ordinary life, looks at the police officers with high standards. This is because police
officers are known to fight criminal and protect the country. They are the heroes of our country.
But ever since police officers became obese or they become overweight, people now tend to look
at them like mascots in the streets or in the police headquarters. The Philippine National Police
conducts an exercise or physical activity annually. But the problem here is police officers think
that this is a funny movement from the PNP. This should not be the mindset of the police
officers. Having an exercise daily will help them big time in having a healthy body and a healthy
life.
Definition of Terms:

Physical Activity- The ability of an individual to perform exercise every day
