1) Introduction
Swivel is a piece of equipment that is placed under the master valve of the
Surface Test Trees that allows operations with the vessel or subsea column
rotation without their interference.
During operations, if there’s the need of changing in positioning, swivel
gives mobility depending on the necessity, the superior part stays fixed and the
cylinder follows the spin and the contrary (necessity of spinning the vessel with the
column connected to the well).

3) Desassembling the Swivel
Remove cap screws and replace them by screws that will allow the
installation of the proper tool according to the pictures bellow:

Install the lifting tool and remove the bearing retainer:

Using a lifting belt, install the swivel on its stand.

Torque pin is directly connected to the swivel lid nut with its cap on,
requesting its removal so the lid might be removed later.
After removing the bearing retainer, one must clench the swivel on the base
using a chain wrench and remove the lid screwing it counter clockwise.

Install a left nut crossover on the mandrel, remove the mandrel from the stand and
take it to the test bay.
Install two 5 ¾” stub acme plugs, a test pump and pump a pressure of
about 500 psi to uncouple the mandrel from the swivel housing.

*For this activity, it will be needed to fulfill the whole hydrostatic test process.
At the end of the uncoupling there will be a slight water release from the
inside of the swivel housing giving access to the mandrel, inferior axis rolling and
packing.

After putting it apart, clean it and inspect the whole equipment.

The main problem found on the swivel is due on the loss of the mandrel
sealing area covering as shown on the previous pictures.

5) Assembling the Swivel
The first step on assembling is the installation of the mending.
Mending is installed in a way the stem packing stays on the central grooves
and the wear rings on the superior and inferior grooves.

Afterwards, install the spherical roller bearing.
The next step is to put back the swivel housing on the stand so one might
be able to install the mandrel. For this, install the left nut crossover on the mandrel
with the aid of a belt and put it on the same swivel housing.

Thus, install the thrust bearing, which is responsible for supporting and
column spin.
Install the spherical bearing on the bearing retainer.

Then, place the mandrel while installing the bearing retainer.

Tighten the bearing retainer to the fullest.
Later, remove the stand swivel, remove the tool and install cap screws.

The last step of assembling is to install the swivel on the surface test tree, to
this, use a chain wrench to connect, be aware that the swivel is left nut, and also
use a rolling chain, that will act on lifting and helping on the rotation, that will be
created on connecting the swivel.

The first step of disassembling this swivel is removing the keyway, this system was
increased due to problems that were happening related to torquing between the
adapter and the swivel housing to do its torque break.

*Pay attention on breaking the torque because inferior and superior lids are left nut.

After uncouple the adaptor get access to sealing sleeve ( Inconel 718 ) , O’ring and
back up and the packing.
*Pay attention to the right form to install the spare parts, one O’Ring and
one back up by each groove.

After that uncouple the nut until the end and thus get access to the roller
bearings and the mandrel.
To remove the central roller bearing is necessary remove the mandrel and
thus you have to use a hydraulic press machine. The nut must be fixed on the
vertical position and the mandrel of hydraulic press machine will force the swivel
mandrel.

To remove the up roller bearing is necessary one more break torque. To do

it the nut be fixed and the retainer seal is uncouple.

Clean all the swivel components and inspect it.

9) Halliburton Swivel Assembly
After clean and inspection all swivel components you have to do the opposite of
disassembly, started by the up roller bearing. Then the central roller bearing, the
cone bearing and mandrel.
Install the mandrel on the swivel housing then couple the adaptor.
