LEGEND: THE LEGEND OF THE GUAVA REFLECTION

Philippines is known as one of the countries which is very rich in culture and one of this
are the myths and folklores. These folklores may be legends of things or places which are
accompanied with moral lessons. The Legend of the Guava is an example of a folklore which
exists and is adopted until the present time.

The story depicts a selfish and greedy king who has everthing anyone could asked for.
The throne, shelter, his people who served him whom he disregarded, and the food which his
people need but is the main thing he cannot share even a little piece. The king cannot see the
suffering of starvation his people is experiencing. He is too busy loving himself without
bothering to have concern towards his people. The news about the kingdom's downfall spread
and reach an old lady who is a fairy unexpectedly. He came to the palace begging the king for
food. Though the king has a lot of food for himself he didn't spare any for the old lady. The lady
became outrageous and punish the king. Soon after, the king died because of illness and
expectedly no one even showed at his burial. Where the king was buried grows a tree which
bears a fruit with a crown. The people believed that it was their selfish king. The fruit became the
source of the people for food.

The story is a great eye opener for everyone to not wait for your death until you can serve
or give back to the people who loved you. Just like the king, he was only able to serve his people
through the fruit which grew on his tomb. Why not spare some for those who are in need, why
keep it for yourself when it is better to share. Life is not always you on the top and who has a lot,
life has a lot of different high and low peaks. Share when you are still on your highest peak
because when the world rotates the time will come that you will need the help of those below
you. Then, by that time you will have someone to rely and lean on just like how they rely on you
when they are at their lowest.
