Capstone Project Proposal Draft

Name of student: Stanley Lee Date: Oct 20

Teacher: Ms.Lacroix Block: 1-3

The Capstone strand I have chosen is Event capstone

Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one
clear sentence):
a 3vs3 charity basketball tournament that will help underprivileged kids with simple basketball
equipment (shoes, ball, socks….)

Choose one of your stored inquiry questions from grade 9 or create a new inquiry question that
interests you for further research. It should be a question that connects with a purpose, passion
or personalized area of interest for you.
My inquiry question is:

how can I bring awareness and connect basketball and underprivilege issues to engage the
community and encourage them to give back?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect
to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

We’re all lucky that we are born under a privileged family, we take stuff like this granted and
never really think of how hard others need to work to get the “essentials”. I think its important
that we give back to the community even if its through a really simple and small way.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this

area of inquiry?

I think being in rec leadership it has provided me with some basic knowledge and sense of
how hosting a event will feel like. Some thoughts and knowledge I have on hosting a event
could include “how to advertise to come out and support” “how to organize a event that is
suitable for everyone” “ how to include as many people as possible”……

0
Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

Im sure at some point in my career hosting events or do some sort of marketing/advertising

will pop up, its good to start with a minor event and demonstrate the skills.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

Communications- this could be used to communicate with participants and/or people that will
be apart of this event, this could include sponsors, mentors, volunteers and all that are
contributing towards this event.

Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to
present your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once
completed. You may use a combination of mediums.
o Electronic portfolio: Prezi or PPT
o Physical portfolio
o Website
o imovie presentation

o powerpoint: use photos/video/news to show the success of the event and

how it impacted the community in a positive/negative way.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what
will you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced
at the end of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your
proposal.

Project Design Team: who needs to be on your project design team to make this
project/research effective? To support your work? Outline the team and their roles.

I would include some of my friends who can help me promote and spread the idea of this
event, the more it gets shared around in the community the higher the chances are that more
people will come out and participate.

1
Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and
skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail
your plans.

Definitely look at some of the success in setting up and hosting a event, a lot of planning is
also needed so using a method that will make sure I stay on track and due dates will help me
in a lot of ways.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will

you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this
project?

Someone that is in the marketing career, this could include someone that host/plan events
often for a local sports team. They can help me by guiding me through some “must do’s” or
some common errors people make when hosting a event.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?

There’s only so many people that are willing to come out on a weekend and be apart of a
tournament that “doesn’t even matter that much”, possible obstacles could include struggling
to find sponsors and time management, this could be avoided by planning out things earlier
and reach out to local community business ahead of time.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

This should be a really good opportunity to include some basketball players in the community
and ultimately its all towards a amazing cause that will help kids play the game of basketball.

References: Provide a literature review or links for 5-10 references: research, videos, etc.
that offer some preliminary research you have done for your project that shows you are able
to access the key information that you will need to be able to complete this project/work.
