Kira, accompanied by Matt, Thomas, and Branch, sneaked downstairs to investigate the sound of

the crying child, then later has a conversation with Jamison. First, Kira overhears Jamison

speaking firmly to a crying child. The child then begins to sing, and Matt tells Kira that he knows

the singing girl. After returning back to Kira’s room, Matt informs Kira that the little girl’s name

is Jo, and she is from the Fen. Jo was recently orphaned when her mother died of illness and her

dad committed suicide out of grief. Later, Jamison visits Kira and is pleased with her work.

Kira tells him what Annabella told her - that there were no beasts. Jamison turns serious and

claims that Annabella is old and her mind is “wandering”. He also reminds Kira that he had seen

many beasts himself, and saw Kira’s father being taken by beasts. Finally, Kira touches her

special piece of cloth, which is trying to warn her about something that is coming.
