Statement of the Problem

The study determines the effects of social media in students’ performance

of Grade 8 students of Victoria National High School.

Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

1. What is the degree of the effects of social media in terms of :

1.1 Students attention

1.2 Interest toward study

1.3 Academic performance

2. What is the level of students ‘performance of the respondents?

3. Is there a significant relationship between the social media and students’

performance of the respondents?

Statement of Hypotheses

1. There is no significant relationship between the social media and students’

performance of the respondents.

2. There is no significant difference between the social media and students’

performance of the respondents.

Conceptual Model

Respondents

Figure 1. Hypothesized relationships between and among the variables of the

study

As shown, the study will determines the relationship between the effects of

social media and students’ performance of Grade 8 students in Victoria National High

School.

The independent variable in the study of the effects of social media in

students’ performance of Grade 8 students in Victoria National High School is the

effects of social media measured in terms of: student’s attention, interest towards

study and academic performance.

The dependent variable in the study is the students’ performance of Grade 8

students in Victoria National High School.

Research Design

This study will employ descriptive correlation method of research.

Descriptive-correlational method is designed to determine the relationship

between the variables of this study.

In this study, correlational research design will be used to determine the

relationship between the extents of the students’ performance of the

respondents.

In this study, the extent of the effects of social media of the respondents

will be correlated to students’ performance.

Respondents of the Study

The respondent of the study will be the selected Grade 8 students of

Victoria National High School.

Research Instrument

The main instrument of the study will be self-structured

questionnaire. It will be composed of two parts: Part I will include questionnaire

about the effects of social media in terms of: student’s attention, interest towards

study, and academic performance. Part II will be the level of student’s

performance of respondents.

On the other hand, record analysis will be employed to obtain the average

grades of the students during fourth grading period.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Data gathered will be described using weighted mean, rank,

frequency and percentage distribution. Differences between the variables were

measured using t-Test for independent samples. Relationship between the

independent variable and dependent variable will be determined using Pearson’s

Product Moment Correlation Coefficient.
