Title of Source: Kartilya ng Katipunan ni Emilio Jacinto

I. Author and his background
Emilio Jacinto the “Brain of Katipunan”, was born in Tondo, Manila on 15th of December 1875, died on 16th of April 1899
in Laguna because of malaria. He was the only son of Mariano Jacinto and Josefa Dizon. His father passed away, shortly
after he was born. He was raise by his mother and his uncle Don Jose Dizon.
 He attended San Juan de Letran College and later transferred to University of Santo Tomas to study law.
 At the age of 19, he joined the secret society called Katipunan.
 He became the advisor on fiscal matters and secretary of Andres Bonifacio. He was later known as “Utak ng
Katipunan”
 He wrote for the Katipunan newspaper called Kalayaan and used his pen name Dimasilaw

II. Audience
Kartilya ng Katipunan original title is “Manga Aral Nang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan” served as guidebook for the
new members of the organization. It was written for the new recruits, to introduce the principles and values that should
guide every member of the organization.
