District 93 Policies and Procedures

Nutrition

District 93 provides over 6,000 meals to the schools within its district each day. Breakfast and

lunch are offered during the school year and throughout the summer. Families can apply for free

or reduced meals for their children. Healthier food and drink options cost less than unhealthy

foods which serve as an incentive for children to make positive dietary choices. Additionally,

class parties that involve food are limited to one per month.

Health

Students must be immunized and provide records or have a certificate of exemption before

attending school. If a student has a contagious or infectious disease that may be life threatening

to others, that student may be denied attendance as deemed necessary. Hazardous practices like

smoking (and nicotine use such as vaping) is prohibited on school property (and vehicles.)

Safety

Schools must ensure that kitchens and school buildings are sanitary. Health licenses are to be

maintained and safety hazards must be minimized for the safety of students and staff. Weapons

or dangerous devices are not allowed on school grounds. In case of emergencies, schools are to

design and implement emergency plans. Plans must include floor plans that show where all the

fire extinguishers, evacuation routes, and nearest exits are located.
