Jerwin Ancajas pulled off a stunner on Saturday by dominating McJoe Arroyo to snatch the IBF super
flyweight championship via unanimous decision at the Jurado Hall in Taguig City.
The Cavite-based Ancajas rocked the Puerto Rican champion down in the sixth round and finally scored a
knockdown in the seventh, before dominating the rest of the fight.
Arroyo again went down in the ninth, but referee Gene del Blanco ruled it as a slip.
In the end, Ancajas, 24, took all the judges’ scorecards, 118-109, 117-110, 115-112, upsetting the former
Olympian in his first title defense since winning the then-vacant belt from Arthur Villanueva in July 2015.
Ancajas — victorious in his last 12 fights — improved his record to 35-1 with 16 KOs.
Meanwhile, Arroyo suffered his first professional defeat and fell to 17-1 with 8 KOs.
