PROPOSED SYLLABUS IN COMMUNITY LITERACY AND INTERCULTURAL INQUIRY


Content: Community Literacy as Seen Through the Eyes of Families

I. RESEARCH PAPER BACKGROUND

 This is a 2008 paper conducted by Linda Graham at New Hampshire (NH). Community literacy was explored utilizing a pyramid
as the research framework. Data gathering was done through series of interviews conducted with three families participating in
a family literacy program in rural NH. Respondents were asked a series of questions about their participation in community
literacy events and supports to reach a synthesis of what families do that is inherently strong to be able to create positive
outcomes of the study for young children and their families.
II. OBJECTIVES

1. explore family literacy relative to community literacy;


2. derive insights from community literacy concepts in the context of classroom instruction enhancement and personal
experience; and
3. develop a family literacy program brochure
