CO2: Develop relations for chip reduction coefficient, shear angle, shear strain, forces, power,
specific energy and temperature in orthogonal cutting
CO3: Explain mechanisms, principles and advantages, limitations of various conventional and
non conventional machining processes along with work and tool holding devices.
CO4: Evaluate Process parameters to minimize production cost and maximize production rate.

5. A carbide cutting tool of designation 0-10-8-8-15-75-1.2mm (ORS) used to turn a steel work
piece 30 mm diameter, with cutting speed 230 m/min and feed 0.25 mm/rev and cutting force
185 kg & feed force 110 kg. A chip thickness of 0.35 mm is obtained. Calculate

i) shear angle and friction angle,

iii) normal force to shear force

6. With a neat sketch explain ASA system of tool signature. Mention tool signature for ORS
