We Are Relevant!
“Do not regard a woman as a mere plaything, but as a helpmate and partner in the hardships of this
existence.” I chose this teaching of Katipunan because women are the cornerstone for the survival of humankind
and for such, they deserve all the respect and gratitude. When we discussed about the KKK and its teaching, I am
aware that men established it and I am thankful for them because it gave way to the freedom and independence
we have now. But what I like about the teachings of Katipunan is that they give importance to the women. They
see women as a helpmate and a partner in facing and solving the challenges they are facing that time. They
didn`t think of women as a plaything or someone that should just stay at home and do chores and take care of
their children but someone who are with them in their hardships.

When I posted the teaching in the Katipunan in my Facebook account I received 23 different reactions
and 2 comments. Thirteen (13) people liked it, eight (8) people hearted it and two (2) people wowed it. And
those who reacted on my Facebook post are mostly women. In my opinion, they reacted on that post because
they can relate to it. It is sad that only a small percentage of men nowadays appreciate and still respect women.
I can say that because of the situation we have now like the cat-calling, rapes and abused. But I am happy that
women are now brave and strong to fight for their rights. Gone are the days were women are not allowed to
vote, to work and to express herself. Our existence is relevant and we can also make change and impact in this
world. About the comment, it is really rare that I post something like that so I understand why they reacted that
way.
