 Definition Of Plateaus

A plateau is a raised, flat-surfaced areas

bounded on one or more sides by cliffs or steep
slopes
 There are three types of plateaus. The three types of
plateaus are dissected, volcanic and oceanic plateaus.

A volcanic plateau is a plateau produced by volcanic

activity.

An oceanic plateau is elevated portion of the seafloor that is generally flat and
level, similar like a plateau on dry land.

A dissected plateau is a plateau area that has been severely eroded so that the
relief is sharp.
 How Landforms Are Formed
.The surface of the Earth is divided into sections called tectonic
plates. These sections move and often bump up against each
other. When this happens, the land is pushed upward and a
plateau is created.
Sometimes plateaus are created from the result of years of
volcanic activity. When a volcano erupts, hot molten rock called
magma escapes from inside the Earth. Once it is no longer I n the
Earth, it is called lava. This lava builds up and cools, and over
time, the layers of lava create a plateau.

climate of the Deccan plateau is a lot drier than the
climate in the rest of India.
