Reflexive property: x = x
Example: Suppose John's height = Mary's height and Mary's height = Peter's height, then John's
height = Peter's height
Example: Suppose John's height = Mary's height, then John's height + 2 = Mary's height + 2
Or suppose 5 = 5, then 5 + 3 = 5 + 3
Example: Suppose John's height = Mary's height, then John's height − 5 = Mary's height − 5
Or suppose 8 = 8, then 8 − 3 = 8 − 3
Example: Suppose Jetser's weight = Darline's weight, then Jetser's weight × 4 = Darline's weight
×4
Example: Suppose Jetser's weight = Darline's weight, then Jetser's weight ÷ 4 = Darline's weight

What is a Point? A point is an exact location on a plane. A plane is a 2-dimensional, flat surface.
A point is usually marked by a dot and a capital letter. Points can be used to name angles and
shapes, such as rectangle EFGH or line segment XY.
What is a Line? A line is a straight one-dimensional figure having no thickness and extending
infinitely in both directions. A line is sometimes called a straight line or, more archaically, a
right line.
What is a Plane? A plane is a flat, two-dimensional surface that extends infinitely far. A plane is
the two-dimensional analogue of a point, a line and three-dimensional space.
What is a Segment? A segment is a part of a line that is bounded by two distinct end points, and
contains every point on the line between its endpoints. A closed line segment includes both
endpoints, while an open line segment excludes both endpoints; a half-open line segment
includes exactly one of the endpoints
What is an Angle? An angle is the figure formed by two rays, called the sides of the angle,
sharing a common endpoint, called the vertex.
What are Angle Pairs? Angle Pairs are special angle relationships are formed when two lines
intersect, and you can use your knowledge of linear pairs of angles to explore each angle further.
Vertical angles are defined as two non-adjacent angles formed by intersecting lines.
Complementary Angles - Complementary angles are pair of angles whose measures adds up to
90^circ`. Combining two complementary angles will form a right angle. A complement is an
angle which sums up to 90^circ` when added to a particular angle.
Supplementary Angles - Supplementary angles are pair of angles whose measures sum up to
180∘. Combining two supplementary angles will form a straight angle. A supplement is an angle
which sums up to 180∘ when added to a particular angle. If two angles are supplementary, then it
can either be an obtuse angle and an acute angle; or a pair of right angles. Definitely, one angle
should have a measure of at least 90∘.
Linear Pair - A linear pair is a pair of supplementary angles sharing one common side. The two
angles are adjacent and sum up to 180∘. The other sides of the angles that are not common to

them form a straight line. Similar to supplementary angles, a linear pair also can either be
composed of an obtuse angle and an acute angle; or a pair of right angles.
Vertical Angles - When two lines intersect, four angles are formed which sum up to 360∘.
Specifically, two pairs of congruent angles are formed by this intersection. Vertical angles are
two angles which are opposite to each other at the intersection of two lines. These angles have
equal measures and will never form a linear pair. The intersection of two lines always creates
two pairs of vertical angles.
Alternate Interior Angles - If two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, eight angles are
formed. The four angles between the two parallel lines are called interior angles while the other
four angles are called exterior angles. Alternate interior angles are two angles on opposite sides
of a transversal and are between the two parallel lines. These angles are congruent and only exist
if the lines that the transversal intersects are parallel.
Alternate Exterior Angles - Alternate exterior angles are two angles on opposite sides of a
transversal and are not between the parallel lines. Similar to alternate interior angles, these angles
are also congruent and only exist if the lines that the transversal intersects are parallel.
2. It forms a linear pair with its alternate exterior angle at the opposite side of the transversal.
Alternate-Exterior-Angles
2. They are vertical angles with its alternate exterior angle at the same side of the transversal.
Corresponding Angles - Corresponding angles are two congruent angles on the same side of the
transversal. One angle is an interior angle and the other is an exterior angle. Similar to alternate
interior angles and alternate exterior angles, these angles only exist if the lines that the
transversal intersects are parallel. The corresponding angle of an interior angle is the exterior
angle at the same side of the transversal which does not form a linear pair with it. On the other
hand, the corresponding angle of an exterior angle is the interior angle at the same side of the
transversal which does not form a linear pair with it.
What are Perpendicular Lines? Perpendicular Lines is the relationship between two lines which
meet at a right angle. The property extends to other related geometric objects. A line is said to be
perpendicular to another line if the two lines intersect at a right angle.

What are Parallel Lines? Parallel Lines are lines in a plane which do not meet; that is, two lines
in a plane that do not intersect or touch each other at any point are said to be parallel. By
extension, a line and a plane, or two planes, in three-dimensional Euclidean space that do not
share a point are said to be parallel.
