Guide Questions
1. Looking at the two datasets you have collected, what can you say about the populations
you have analyzed? What unique characteristics have you observed? Are there any
observable trends among the different age groups?
- According to the data gathered, females tend to live longer than males. Males
peaked most at age 66-70, having 28 deaths, and a few lived up to ages 81-85
The males’ survivorship data also shows that they survive up to ages 76-80 at
most, with a survivorship rate of 0.045. The females’ data however, had the
most death at ages 61-65 and 76-80, both having 26 deaths. The oldest age to
be recorded in the data are ages 91-95, with 2 women dying at that age. The
survivorship rates of women also reached ages 86-90, with a survivorship rate
of 0.01, showing that women live longer than men. The rate of death in the
data of males increases steadily and decreases after peaking at ages 66-70,
while the rate of death in the data of females varies, being not as linear as the
rate of death of males.

2. What type of survivorship curve is exhibited by your two datasets? Why?

- The type of survivorship curve exhibited by both the datasets is type 1, since
the sample used are humans, and humans tend to survive more until
adulthood. The graph in figure 1 shows a convex curve, which shows that both
datasets tend to survive more at the early and middle stages of life, and
survivability decreases at it continues on to the later part of life.

3. If you compared data collected from two (or more) different cemeteries, what can you
say about the populations you observed from the different cemeteries?
- In comparison to the data collected from the Manila Memorial Park, men have
a higher survivorship rate in Manila than the males of San Jose Del Monte,
Bulacan. The rate of death of males in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan are more
linear than both of the data collected from Manila, where the rate of death
varies more. The oldest ages in the male dataset from Manila are ages 91-95,
and its oldest ages recorded in the female dataset are ages 81-85, which is the
opposite of the datasets collected from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. The type
of survivorship curve, however, is the same, since both samples are humans.
