Did President Akufo-Addo fall asleep at the Russia African

Summit?

A video of President Akufo- Addo is trending nationwide where Akufo-Addo is seen with his

head down during one of the presentations. In the clip you see The President of Gambia, sitting

to his left, and many others with their heads raised listening to the speaker. He has given the

impression that he was either dozing off or was not engaged in the topic of discussion.

The Russia–Africa Summit commenced on Oct 23, 2019. A two day event being held at the

Sirius Park of Science and Art and will be co-chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin and

Egyptian President and African Union Chairman Abdelfattah ALSISI. Russia–Africa Summit

is the first event of its kind in the history of Russian-African relations to which the head of

every African state and the leaders of major regional associations and organizations have been

invited.

Many are accusing the Ghanaian President of such act while others think that he was in full

President Akufo-Addo will be holding meetings with the President of the Russian

Federation, Vladimir Putin, and CEOs of some Russian enterprises to discuss bilateral

relations.

There is no country that is fully interdepend since time in memorial countries have depended on

each other for raw materials, labor, capital and market. Therefore, international relations is

important the progress of country. Currently there is a turn by majority of African countries have

turn from western to eastern part of the globe. The change have been greatly attributed due to the

change of United States of America from a major debtor to major borrower. In particular China

have turned in to a major player on the economies of Africa countries. The change in situation

have led countries to particular the developed nations to change their tactic in the international

relations. At the same time the developing countries are a great need of the capital investment

that is brought by countries in region. The new relationship between Russia and African

particularly Ghana is Russia way to ensure it sustain it supply of raw materials. Chana is a major

export of oil and gold and Russia will like part of those resources.

Last week about 40 leaders from Africa went to the southern City of Sochi for the African

summit in Russia. According to the president of Russia the summit was a new beginning for the

relations between Russia and Africa. Russia is already in a relationship with Africa as it the

largest supplier of arms. The summit aimed to at restoring links that were destroyed after the

collapse Soviet Union. Russia hopes to restore those links helping African countries to develop
their infrastructure and reinforcement of security. At the same time U.S and China are also

competing to have influence on the on Africa resources. For most African country they have

maintained a neutral position and welcomed investment from any part of the world.
