Operational planning

- is the process of converting strategic goals and objectives into tactical goals and
objectives.
- is a detailed document that lists down what an organization will do and
implement on a specific time period. The time period varies from organization to
organization and depends what the organizations or institutions wants to
implement or achieve.

How to Create a Primary School Operational Plan


1.Be specific
- an operational plan loses its purpose if the content is too general. It is not
an outline but a study which results from extensive research.
2. Set Goals
- goal setting is very important in creating operational plan. It indicate what the
individual or organization wants to achieve in the operational plan.
3. Use time frame for each goals
- An operational plan does not include time frame is like a letter without a
heading or a salutation, it is an incomplete document.
4. Coordinate with other teachers
- If you are unsure on how to create your own operational plan, you can
always coordinate and ask advice from other teachers.
5. Edit (if necessary)
- Operating plans, similar to other types of documents, needs to be checked and
revised if needed. You just don’t create an operational plan and apply them
directly in your organization. Before the operational plan is created, it undergoes
long research and deliberation from the individuals creating the operational plan.
Difference between Strategic Plan and Operational Plan
1.Time Period
- Your strategic plan outlines long term- goals for the next 3-5 years. What
you’ll be doing to achieve those goals in the shorter term (typically the next
fiscal year) is outlined in your operational plan.
2. Goal Focus
- The goal of your strategic plan is to outline the company’s long-term vision and
how all departments should work together to achieve it. The goal of your
operational plan isn’t company-focused-it is department focused.
3. Plan Generation
- Your organization’s high-level leadership team- the executive team or city
council, for instance is responsible for creating the strategic plan.
- Every department should have the leader or team of leaders responsible
for creating their operational plan.
4. Budget
- The budget for your strategic plan comes from your strategic budget, not
your operational budget.
5. Reporting
- When you report on your strategic plan (typically both annualy and
quarterly), your strategic planning committee or executive team will want
to look at how your company is performing in it’s chosen measures.
- Your operational reports, outline hundreds of projects or tasks people in
the department are working on.
