The very first day I enrolled in MSU-IIT it was a surreal feeling of being able to step on my mother’s university. It was
a dream built for me all my life, it was not easy to come all the way in Iligan from where I came from the east of the
island. Yet, again I will claim it. This school is for me, to be molded in what I wanted myself to become in the future.
It took me half of my life to be here right now and I have no other reason to slow down.
Back in my younger days, I was an active participant in the speaking competition in schools such as declamation, debate,
and oration, not to mention all other extracurricular activities that involve journalism, singing, and sports. More
importantly, I was able to pull through many instances that boost my confidence in speaking towards the public and
graduated with honors in elementary and high school. One of the unforgettable experience that I treasured was when I
became the batch president in two consecutive years all because of my ability to lead and express the voice of the
majority. Indeed, it was a challenging journey that taught me a lot of things in serving and voicing out ideas of our
young minds.
I took the MSU-SASE exam, and with great expectation, I was able to get through and enrolled in one of its colleges. I
was overjoyed to be accepted in the Department of History. Since it is one of my favorite subjects back then, reading
has never grown old in me which I am grateful for my parents. In my four years of study of history, I became equipped
with all these little things on how we humans have the power to do something great or worse if we only stand on the
principles we believe and take them in action. To quote Joseph Stalin says, “it is not heroes that make history, it is
history making heroes”. It was a great privilege to dig deeper into the history of countries in the world. To be more
precise, I was an active student during class activities, to the annual society celebration “Historical Days” and “CASS”
days event, sadly more in the extracurricular activities that do not involve in speaking or journalism. But still, I was able
to study diligently and graduated on time. I missed small points to gain cum laude since I cannot grow a fondness to
math subjects in a small amount of time. Above all of these, my parents are proud and supportive as the way they are
in the beginning, and they are my steadfast in pursuing the path I want to obtain in the near future.

Statement of Purpose: Why do you want to study law? You may include here stories or personal experiences that
have inspired you to study law. Do not hesitate to state the real reason why you will study law. (max. 800 words)

The Philippines’ justice system is long overdue. What I mean to say, that it has become one of the most underrated
facets of our country, a mocking trail for some people and an endless pit full of anguish to those who do not understand
it. As a student of History, I want to believe that it is not too late to change all of these perspectives. Certainly, I want
to seek answers to why young minds like us should be more willing to understand the justice system of our nation. Why
should we invest our time studying law if it is clear enough that one cannot change the system? I keep on asking myself
the same question for almost about two years before I finally made up my mind to pursue this goal. I want to study law
because I have no other options to be part of the justice system they are misled to understood.
Firstly, I want to study law because of my family. My grandparents are both hardworking farmers at a young age in
Surigao del Sur, a victim of giving an unequal division of land holdings, since my Nanay is only an adopted child but
still a legitimate child by blood. Unfortunately, they are forever trapped in such dismay that they will bring up to their
graves like my how grandfather occasionally says. Yet, I still believe that to change his mind about how the justice
system is not all biases is to be part of it. To let him understand that what was taken for granted before cannot be the
same if it was brought to the court right now. Why would it matter? Because he would never expect a family member
would take this journey to let him comprehend better on how was it not possible for them to win that case they fought
for. None of their eight children have taken the path to settle the anguish of their hearts each passing day. Until the day
comes when my grandmother passed away, all was left was him grieving. It was the incoming 3rd year of my college,
that I decided to study law because I want to help him understand what happened and could have happened is not the
fault of the system. It is the one who practiced the system makes it unbearable for them to win. In short, I am after my
grandfather’s heart contentment. After all, I was an active student of history that values the most important unit of
society, the family. Which I will be the first to embark in this journey to end their doubts and hypocrisy about the justice
system we are all undertaken for granted if we do not know how and why is it made.

Secondly, I am inspired to help little children who haven’t instilled dreams for their future, for those who are likely a
product of unlawful upbringing. This is all because I was raised in such comfort that every time I can think of other
children sleeping on the cold street pavements with growling stomachs it breaks my heart. I want to work on something
that can help the future of our nation to stand tall and proud again. That the Philippines will not forget about these souls
who struggled every day to live. These little children will be our future leaders and heroes. I strongly believe when Rizal
said that we are the “hope of the nation”. We cannot argue what is it in the future but we can do something today. We
will hope to give birth to more nationalistic spirits by providing the basic foundation of understanding things the way
they are is not forever. Time is only constant to changes, so are we but not our hearts and minds. Young Filipino children
can become what they want in the future if only we have bestowed all the basic rights they deserved in the first place.

Finally, I wanted to study law to understand more about the history and its complex diversity. May it be on politics
down to religion, I have high expectations that I could have deep learning about it here in this path I will embark. Honest
to say, It will take the time and effort to study all of these necessities. Nonetheless, I am much willing to gain more
knowledge about what is happening in the contemporary world. Maybe even find answers on the way on why people
fall in love studying law? Is getting a law degree could make you a better citizen of this country? If I study law can I
make little changes for some people’s future or even my own future? I will hope to answer them in the years to come.

How do you see yourself after law school? You may discuss here your professional track as lawyer. You may also
include you future undertakings or contributions in the administration of justice. (max. 800 words)
