The Importance of Medical, Fitness, Performance, and Rehab

Both fitness and wellness should be daily activities for firefighters. This is to do

maintenance and operations for upkeep in most shifts. Exercise and physical activities, when

undertaken regularly, are beneficial for the health of a person, psychological and physical well-

being. Some of the benefits of physical fitness are the prevention of obesity and the

encouragement of a lifestyle that is healthy through training and concentrating on the

compositions of the body. If a person does not exercise the authority will not be able to work at

its full potential at all times. This paper will look at the importance of medical, fitness,

performance, and rehab standards. This will be done by using the given scenario as a basis,

addressing the significant issues, potential solutions and also provide recommendations.

The significant issues in the scenario are from two members that are skipping the

mandatory hours for fitness. The first person is a probationary firefighter and smokes, and he is

making claims of his knee hurting from a condition that he had previously. The second person is

an officer considered overweight and out of shape. He also claims that his knee hurts when he

has to do things like climbing the stairs of the horse tower. Apart from the two members, there

are even more disagreements among the ranks because of the members that are not taking part in

the mandatory fitness program.

Some of the potential solutions for the significant issues have to enforce the aspect of

health and fitness program. This is a way that will make all the workers notice when undertaken

that the organization is very serious about the issues. The workers that will not be willing to take

part in the mandatory health and fitness programs should be punished in terms of working for

long hours and not being given allowances. These are some of the ways that can be used in

motivating all the workers to take part in the program. Another potential solution is to make the

health and wellness program to be personalized for it to be fair for all the workers. This is

because not all the employees are at the same level, considering that some have had injuries in

the past. When workers can take part in their fitness level, they will be more likely to participate.

Group control is one of the recommendations that can work. This is where no financial

rewards will be given to the workers, but there will a group that will be controlling the way that

they take their health and fitness program. Another recommendation is the spread of incentives

over time. The incentives can include financial gifts, social recognitions like rewards and

surprise incentives for the employees to be motivated. This will make some of the employees to

take part in the health and fitness program for the incentives, and as a result, their health

behavior will be a habit. Also, the employees will realize that they are enjoying a lifestyle that is

healthy and experiences the benefit of living well (Harland, 2005).

Fitness and health program has several benefits, including muscular endurance, muscle

strength, prevention of obesity, brain activity, and lowering risks of body problems that are

major. The lifespan of employees will be improved; thus; they will be more productive in the

workplace.
