Memorial Tree Donation Program

The City of Commerce City presents a tree donation program designed to bring shade,
beauty, and a lasting legacy to your favorite park. You may donate a tree in memory of
a friend or loved one, in recognition of an important event or accomplishment, as a
personal or business contribution, or just because you like trees.

Your donation will cover:

• The purchase of the tree
• Delivery, planting, and mulching of the tree
• Basic ongoing maintenance of the tree

A park specialist will assist you in choosing the type of tree and appropriate location in
one of our parks or around city buildings.

All trees carry a one year guarantee against loss. Although the park system will do its
best to care for the tree, climatic conditions may impact its health. If the tree does not
survive during the first year following planting, the City of Commerce City will replace it
at no cost. If the donated tree fails within years 2 or 3 from its planting date, the City of
Commerce City will contact the donor and offer the donor the opportunity to replace it at
the same location at the current donation rate.

Some varieties and species of tree are best suited for certain environments and/or are
called for in preapproved landscaping plans. This being the case, not all parks will have
available planting spots at all times, so, if possible, donors should request a first and
second choice of park location. A specific location within a park can be requested;
However, several other factors will also dictate where a tree is planted. If location is
important, please so note on the form so that the matter can be referred to the
appropriate staff member before making a donation.

Minimum donations of $25 are accepted year round. However, in order to help ensure
the healthiest trees possible and the highest rate of planting success, trees are only
planted in the spring and fall.

All donations to the program are fully tax deductible to the extent provided by law.

The City of Commerce City will send all donors a certificate acknowledging the gift.
Donors of $250 or more will also receive a leaf on the City of Commerce City Giving
Tree Plaque located in the Recreation Center.

The City of Commerce City limits the size, variety, species, and supplier of trees to help
ensure the highest success rate and/or healthiest trees possible. We regret that we are
unable to accept trees not listed above or specific live trees in lieu of a monetary
donation.
